G37 Transmission Issues with 4th -> 3rd Downshift
Does this happen to everyone in regular D mode too, or just DS/M? I can feel the rough downshift in DS/M but not D. It doesn't bother me much enough to go get it reflashed.
To look at this upgrade as a simple fix for the 4-3 downshift is being short sighted. The upgrade improves the syncing of the engine and transmission in many ranges and really increases the overall driveability. I would have done it a long time ago if I had known it would have made this much of a difference.
I've had mine done and it makes the car much nicer to drive...slowing down that is.
That said...the 7AT is still not perfect. I'm sure it could be....but it needs more software. I get this rpm just as it upshifts after the car is restarted in a warm start situation...searh "flare" around here.
Also I have an occasional rough 3-2 downshift that happens at about 800rpm...almost like its holding on to 3rd TOO long...then kind jerks/bumps into 2nd. The most frustrating part...this stuff isn't all the time.
Don't be me wrong though...the 7AT is still a good unit. I mean....the rev match downshifts are usually damn near perfect. Also, it has a dual personality...soft at 1/4 throttle and then cracks off nice firm positive shifts at 1/2 throttle or greater. Combine that with a super short 1st and 2nd gear and this car (with AWD) leaves the line with authority!

I agree. The upgrade seems to really help mine make better use of 1st and 2nd gears on the upshift. In the past, I'd really have to get on the throttle to accelerate quickly in those gears, now it seems to accelerate much better in those gears with little effort. Before the upgrade, I used the paddle shifters frequently to tweak the shifting. I haven't even touched them since I had the upgrade done, so it seems tuned pretty well.
While not perfect, we have to remember that all the recent reviews of the car rave about the 7 speed auto, so it must compare favorably to others that are out there.

I'm in the same situation as you. I haven't noticed anything from driving in D but when I drive in DS that's where I expirience the rough downshifts and sudden RPM surges while braking for stop light/sign, only happens for a second or two then its all OK again. I'm still undecided if I want to get this TSB performed. What would you guys suggest?
If you are not bothered by the downshift in D, then I think you shouldn't have it done. DS is supposed to give you more "sport" feel so rough downshifts are somewhat expected.

My new G37 journey probably already has the fix since I don't feel much on downshifts at low speed. The loaner car I used yesterday gave me headache when driving around parking lot. So I can tell the difference is big.

I am curious as to what is the build date of your G37? My G37's build date is 07/09. I just got the car 3 weeks ago with 9 miles on the odometer. I am wondering if the Transmission was flashed with the new software. I haven't noticed the downshift problem, but it does seem like at 30 to 40 mph the transmission searches between 3rd and 4th gear. Should I just take it to the dealership and have them look at it?

You most likely already have the fix. You'd definitely notice a hard downshift at 22-23 mph when driving normally - it used to throw my head forward between that and the engine braking until I learned how to anticipate it and compensate with very careful braking. If you typically brake hard, you might not notice there was anything out of the ordinary.
