Hey Guys, one day i was looking around this forum and I enter about 2-3 threads about oil change..

But what i understand is most of you guys hate mobil1...
mobile1 is one of the best global oil and all the german cars USE mobil1

but why do you guys hate that oil?? is there something wrong with it?

 

I just had it put in on my last oil change and no problems here.

They dealer just used what they had. PRetty sure it was Mobil1 synthetic 5w 30.

 

I've used mobil1 in every car I've ever owned and I will use it in my G after the "break in." Everyone has their own opinions, it's like everything else there will be people that love it and hate it for seemingly no reason.

 

From the reading I've done.....the "new" Mobil 1 (which is using Grade III base stocks instead of Group IV PAO stocks in the past), tends to shear down very quickly in high revving engines like our G's VQ37. The reason for the "hatred" towards Mobil 1 is that they're selling a cheaper product for the same price as the old Mobil 1, plus the shearing down issue. Used Oil Analysis proves there are other better oils for the G. I personally will be using Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic at my next oil change. This oil has gotten RAVE reviews on www.bobistheoilguy.com, and it can be had for $5-6/qt at Advance. Many on that site favor it over Mobil 1. I'll just be taking my own 5 qt jug with me (which you can get at Walmart) to the dealer for my next service. Hope this helped with your question!

I've used Mobil1 for quite some time but didnt even think that it might run differently in the high reving G engines...I'll definitely be looking into the Penz Platium now!

 

No problem bro!!! I know some people will say "oil is oil"....but I disagree. One benefit of the Pennzoil Platinum that I've read on bobistheoilguy, is that most people noticed that their engines are much quieter (idle, and low RPMs). Plus, the P.P. has significant cleaners in it which should keep our new engines cleaner for longer.

I will also say this.....our engines should stay clean with good conventional oil with regular changes. I just prefer to use synthetic....if I'm wasting money, so be it.

 

Quick note....went to Wally World tonight and they had 5 qt jugs of Pennzoil Platinum for $20....quick math, that's $4 a quart. Not a bad deal for a highly respected synthetic! I got the last jug on the shelf. Now for my next oil change to get here already.

 

What bout Eneos? Is any good apart that is Nippon.

 

All I know is that Eneos is a highly respected Japanese oil...that's about all I got. I think Heat is using it in her G....might wanna shoot her a PM and see how she's liking it and if she's dong a UOA on it.

 

Your Pennzoil PP is also a Group III oil, just like Mobil 1. Don't know where you get that Mobil 1 'shears down quickly', it hasn't in the UOA's I have done. By the way, if you want to use the better oil from either of these brands they are:

Mobil 1 0W-40
Pennzoil PP Euro 5W-40

I would use either of these oils (among many that are also just as good), but wouldn't go so far as to say one is better than the other.

 

You can always go with a "no shear" oil, but it WILL cost you.

 

Well if I was running extended OCI's I would definitely run an oil like Amsoil or Redline or Motul (which I know are more expensive and better group stocks). However, to keep my warranty valid, I'm taking my own oil to the dealer at 3750 OCI and running a better group III oil (which can be had for $20 in a 5 qt jug). It should lubricate a tad better, keep the engine cleaner, and isn't as expensive as the above named oils. I'm going to do a few UOAs on this oil and if it doesn't do as well as they say it does on bobistheoilguy, then I'll admit failure and switch to a group IV/V.

 

If you just want to pay for synthetic for your own peace of mind, that's fine. But if you are changing every 3750, it really doesn't matter if you have group III or group IV, you aren't running it enough miles to matter anyway. There's not an oil you can buy, synthetic or dino, that is goind to break down in that short an OCI.
