How hard is it to change the transmission fluid and differential gear oil? I haven't done it on our car, but can't imagine it be any different from changing oil.

I am sure it pretty easy with a lift. Its a pain in the fudge hole without one.

just bought ATF at the nissan dealer and saved about $6/qt and they're the same too. Gear oil just get at any auto parts (80-90). Couldn't get the drive belt just because it is specific to the G37.

if you go to the infiniti dealer for the ATF, the bottle will just say "NISSAN" on it. And its the same as the Nissan dealer. I confirmed it on both ends, the Infiniti and Nissan dealer. When I call the Infiniti dealer I would ask them about it for the G37, "and by the way, I also have a 350z, will that work as well." And vice versa at the Nissan dealer. They both say it's the same.
They guy told me just to get 80-90 oil for the diff. gear at any auto parts store.
As for the drive belt, it's specific to the G37. (btw, I'm doing the 30k mi service)

Tranny should be changed every 30k according to Infiniti. I do remember most suggested changing the differential fluid around 15k but I believe it's scheduled for 30k as well.

Did someone edit my post? I guess the staff didn't like my original title.

This 'special' ATF is Nissan Matic-J. They are MANY ATF's that meet this spec. You do not have to to use Infiniti (Nissan) ATF.

I realize most of us are still within warranty, but does anyone have any experience with aftermarket fluids like Redline MT-90 in the 6MT? Just seem to notice a lot of complaints about notchy syncros. I used Redline in my '93 300ZX TT and it made a huge difference relative to shift quality/feel.

FWIW, Red Line recommends a 50-50 mix of MTL and MT-90 in our MT's.

Interesting. Has anyone actually done it? Did it make a difference?

Do you mean has anyone, anywhere, actually done it, or only G37 drivers on this board? I don't know if any G37 drivers on this board have done it. But, many people with Nissan 6 speed manual gearboxes have done it, including many where Red Line kept on eye on the effects, and I, personally, am not aware of any complaints or change outs.

Yeah, not necessarily G37 drivers only , just curious if anyone with our gearbox had done it. Thought of it while I was on here so I figured I'd ask here first. Thanks for the info.

I was just informed by the Nissan employee that Nissan does not make ATF type J any more and the type S is now the replacement. Can any one confirm this?

Yes, this is true. They are also instructed to use up all of the Matic J in inventory first. All of the synthetic ATF's that meet Matic J will also meet Matic S spec.
