Help Engine Smell (Might Have Screwed Up)
Engine Smell (Might Have Screwed Up)
In a moment of weakness, I let my wife drive the GEE (6MT) home from a restaurant last night (about 2 miles) while I was in the car. (NO ONE usually drives the GEE except me.) She was driving slow so I told her to try it out.
At the next light she let rip in 1st. I'm not sure exactly what happened but the next thing I knew it immediately redlined. I don't think the wheels were just spinning out. I think she depressed the clutch right after the car started moving and she had the accelerator flat. It was like that for less than a second and she changed to second and everything was OK. There was immediately a strong smell in the car. It was a little like burning rubber but it also had that eletrical burn smell. The rest of the drive was uneventful.
When we got home and I opened the hood and the smell was obviously coming from the engine area, which was hot, although there was nothing visibly wrong. No engine light (or other warning light) was on.
I left the car over night. This morning I checked the oil and it is fine. I drove it and it seems the same. Anyone know what that smell could be or if I should be concerned about anything?

she might have slighty smoked the clutch when she launched. if she left her foot onh the clutch while she was flooring it, not letting it grab all the way. thats what it sounds like. I dont think it causes any damage.
