Here's my thoughts. Is the 7speed Infiniti talks about so glorious compared to the 5spd? Is it possible to swap and cheap?

Just wondering. Please don't make this into a 5spd vs. 7spd thread, I'm just wondering if its swappable for a low cost.

 

i wouldnt think its worth it. it wouldnt be a noticeable difference to swap. now, if its a ls series motor and it would fit, then you should go for it .

 

Can it be done? Without a doubt. Can it be done "for a low cost"? I seriously doubt it. Unless you know someone that can get a helluva deal on the 7sp tranny.

 

Your dash will say "5" in manual mode when you are really in "7"

 

Yes it can be done. It shouldn't be that difficult. However it would most definitely not be cheap. A MT for AT swap is more common I would think.

 

Unless you plan on keeping your car for the better part of a decade the 1MPG or so increase from 5AT-7AT wouldn't be worth it unless you found someone who blew their tranny and could give you a decent amount for your 5AT.

 

I had an idea to just trade in, but even at only a 5 grand loss, it's not worth.. wait for next year when they release the TT hover model.

 

Don't do it. Invest the cost and when your warranty ends go FI. Or spend the price difference now on modifications.


...unless you want the 7at for increased fuel efficiency that is.

 

invest in a ls-series motor naoooo, forgo your idea of the slow hr motor

 

Shumby knows the fastest way from a 5AT to 7AT, but it involves cliff diving in the Canadian outback

damn thats mean about cliff driving.

n e ways just trade the car in. seems like more of a headache than its worth. not to mention no more warranty, resale will drop blah blah blah. I wouldn't buy an 08 with a swap for more, i would pay less.
