Ive never had any problems with 1-2 shifting either. gears 1 and 2 have more torque than 5-6, so its expected to be a little bit more jerky. It is possible to drive this car smooth though.

The clutch mechanism is fully disengaged long before the pedal reaches the floor. It won't hurt anything. You should learn by feel to be able to tell how far the clutch pedal needs to be depressed to fully disengage. About half way or so.
Put the car in 1st and slowly let out the clutch pesal without using the accelerator. See where it starts to engage? That works about the same when you are pressing it to disengage the clutch too.

That may be true for the G, but it's not the case for other cars.

i know exactly what you guys are talking about. I've been driving MT for over 10 years now and this is the first car I've owned which has a sloppy shift into 2nd.
Makes me feel amateur sometimes. As stated previously when you shift at higher RPM's this clunkyness seems to dissapear.

auto is for people with one leg :O
i have the same problem too. I complained to the dealer about it, and said that it is a normal thing. Odd thing is it didn't do it for the first couple weeks I had the car. 1st to second is def the worst though. I've had it grind before even when i fully depress the clutch all the way to the floor before i even touch the shifter. Only happened once, but wtf?

Yeap, clunk is there at low rpm (~2000) if you depress the clutch too quickly all the way to the floor, not engaging but disengaging (depressing the clutch). What I do is depress slow or depress only to the point where is already disengaged (about half way) for a smooth shift, works all the time, or shift at higher rpm's if you whish but in busy driving conditions this is not needed.
First thing I noticed about this car when I was driving out the dealership.

Same thing here, 1st to 2nd is rarely smooth unless it's higher rpms, however, every other gear just slides right in no problem. Although, at least now I can genuwinely say the G37 needs / wants me to shift at 7500 rpm

And here I thought I had a lemon, lol. Im having the same issue with my 1-2 shift. My 2nd gate sometimes feels like its blocked. I'll fuss with trying to get into 2nd for 2-3 seconds at times and just go straight to 3rd because 2nd just wont engage. And this is with the clutch matted to the floor which is not as far as I typically go. I normally go 3/4 of the way down as was mentioned before. There have been a few times where I needed get up and going quick and there was no use getting into 2nd. Does the clutch in the G37s have a typical mechanical fork attached to the pedal? Reason I ask is because it seems as though there is a delay in clutch disengagement if I shift too quick from 1-2.
