AC Questions

I know this may sound like a noob question but since this is my first new car I want to be enlightened.

I was taught a long time ago when I first started driving that when going up steep hills (i.e. Grapevine or heading into Vegas) that you should be careful not to have the AC on for fear of the car overheating. Now does this only apply to older cars or do you guys turn off your AC as well going up steep hills.

Another thing I've heard is that it is not good to leave the AC on when starting the car? People have said you should turn it off before you shut off the engine.

I'm currently in Vegas and drove up here with the AC on the whole way. I made sure to look at the temperature gauge but it stayed at normal operating temperatures. I also leave the AC on when starting the engine. What do you guys do?

Are you serious? Maybe this applied in 1960, but cars overheated back then all the time with or without AC.

No question is a bad question

No probs on running the AC up hills, enjoy the artificial air - I'm sure you need it driving around in Vegas!

NV, that might of been the case as you put it 'along time ago' and with a econo 4 banger (cylinder). Some of those cars even had a button to manually turn the air compressor on and off while the fan still ran. This is by far not the case today and especially your G. Have no fear your G can handle it and much more so enjoy the compforts of your G. Hit the auto button for the AC, close the windows and say ahhhhh.

What I have noticed is when the air is on it does drop the **** out of the miles per gallon but what the heck, go for it.

I think you answered your own question...I was taught a LONG time ago...have no fear, you can run your AC all the time...starting the car and shutting it off. It will not affect your performance or fuel mileage.

Also if you notice when you start the car the AC doesn't actually turn on for a few seconds as the car "boots" up. Even if the AC were off and you hit the button to turn it on it doesn't react immediately after you hit the start button on the car. There is a definite start up time before the car lets you do certain things.
