Premium Gas Recommended or Required?

My current car says 'Premium fuel Recommended' I was wondering if the G37 is the same way? Does anyone know if it is completely safe to use regular unleaded, with the only consequence being reduced performance? In California they only offer 91 Octane anyway for premium (unlike all other 49 states that contain the real 'premium' at 93 Octane) so I'm not getting top performance with CA premium.

I live in Cali and Premium is all I put in my tank.... Oh and I think it says "Premium Unleaded Fuel Only" on the inside of the Fuel Filler Door... Maybe not those exact words but something along the lines of that...

The book says 91+ but it CAN run on 89 NOT 87 octane.

our engines run on an 11:1 compression ratio.

87 octane will spontaneously ignite, causing pinging, at that ratio. 89 octane is probably fine, but i use premium.

ya I knew there some explanation like that... I'm gonna try the 94 octane next time to see how much of a difference in power I feel...if its substantial enough, I might just start using that instead...

Seems selfish, Bill...

...to screw a guy who'll probably end up on the forum looking for help with engine trouble so you could save a couple of bucks...IMO

This is because they feel people with the S drive their cars a bit more aggressive.

lol. With an 11:1 Compression ratio running anything less than 91 is idiotic.
