Sport mode

Tell me if I'm wrong. I say driving in the DS or "sport" mode automatic in my new G is great for around town. It downshifts when it should (unlike in full auto) and upshifts on grades, accel, etc as it should (unllike the full auto which tends to always want to get to 5th gear as soon as possible).

The only problem is, if you have to pass someone and step on it a bit, it revs up way to high and stays there!! Of course you can use the paddles at that point to upshift, but I didn't twice not realizing it wouldn't do that by itself, as it would in full auto.

My tech guy at dealer says I'm "always" supposed to use the paddles while in the Sport mode, but that doesn't make sense if it seems to always shift at just the right time by itself, with the exception of high speeds.

The manual says the Sport mode for winding roads, etc., to give better response. My question is, is it supposed to shift automatically in the sport mode under all speeds, or just the lower in town driving? Seems to me that you shouldn't have to use the paddles if it's shifting down and up appropriately at most speeds other than when you have to accelerate suddenly.???

DS mode is completely automatic at all speeds. Did the car ever hit the rev limiter in DS mode? If so, that is not normal.

In DS mode the rev is held higher than normal drive mode and shifting point seem to be varies depending on how heavy your foot is.
