RPMs

I've had my G37 for a week now and love it. Went with the 5AT due to the fact my wife will drive it once in awhile and hates sticks. The only peculiar thing I have noticed is at highway speed (75-80 mph) it runs at about 3000 RPM in 5th gear. Seems kind of high compared to most transmissions. My Acura TL ran at about 2200 RPM at this speed with 5AT. Not a big deal ... I have been pleasantly surprised with the gas mileage (around 24 gpm on the highway) and engine does not sound excessive. Redline is 7500 RPM so that is higher than most so relatively speaking 3000 is still a comfortable range.

Just curious if anyone has any theories on why they programmed it at such a high RPM in 5th.

0-150 in about 40 seconds is the reason. I know nobody does that (hopefully) but it sells cars.

variable valve timing is constant...you must be thinking of Vtec yo! lol.

it's not like that...VVEL is more comparable to VANOS than VTEC
