Tips for driving the 5AT & minimizing delay in downshifting
Trust me, I do not do it often. Most of my time I am driving at 30-55mph. I have scene the highway/beltway/freeway probably 10 times since i had the car. I do, however, like to open the engine every once in a while since I barely get to drive over the speeds mentioned above.
Using the gear ratios, I estimated some max speeds (in mph) for the 5AT and 6MT:
==5AT==
1st: 41.6
2nd: 68.0
3rd: 104.5
4th: 159.9 theoretical (limited at 155)
5th: 190.3 theoretical (limited at 155)

3rd: 98.4

not sure what gear but i know that it could hit it, and prob hit it without a problem..
some1 told me that he hit 143 in the 07 g35 sedan, so the g37 should be capable of doing it much easier

Redline on both G engines is VERY generous, hitting 7800 is possible. My 05 coupe would hit 7500 before cut-off. It won't let it hang there, but for brief moments the ECU lets you play over the redline. The VQ is very strong indeed and they let you play, can't hurt this engine.
when you have your hand on the shifter, ready to apply a leftward motion, apply a backward pressure to it as well. what this will do is, as soon as it's over in DS, it'll downshift one gear. if this is down fluidly enough, you'll go from cruising in 5th, to screaming in 3rd and ready to nail it.
i dont have my car yet so excuse my dumb question. what do u mean by backwards pressure? cuz id def wanna shift down to 3rd from 5th...of course after the car is broken in!
hard to explain but while youre in D mode(regular) you can move the shifter down a little, so if you move it down and then switch over to DS(sport) you can reduce a step in downshifting while in DS mode.
How did you calculate these?

Yes the paddles do the same as the floor stick. The paddles can be activated in any mode. In D mode using the paddles willtemoparily allow you to manualy shift then after a few seconds it will go back to regular D operations.
O Maybe thats the Reason I havent learned how to use the Paddles yet lol, I guess you have to have the Floor Stick in Manual Shift too before using Paddles Right?
