Parameters For Data-logging

Hey 👋 all. Just looking through the myriad of options for parameters to data log on EcuTek. Curious which ones are the most important outside of obvious like AFR etc. I imagine one answer might be, "depends on what your tuner is asking asking". And that makes sense. But in general, what are the options to select since you can't select them all (there's a limit on parameters with EcuTek).

Cheers!

Of course the tuner wins, but in general I would consider adding: AFR Target, VTC advance commanded, Engine Speed, VVEL Angle Commanded.

To make the log cleaner, you could skip the following (unless you are monitoring these for a specific reason) : AFR Sensor #1 Heater / #2 Heater, Atmospheric Pressure Sensor, Fan Duty, Mass Air Flow, Power Steering Pully Speed, Purge Duty, Throttle Position Sensor Bank #1 / Bank #2

Outside of AFRS:
Engine load
MAF readings
VTC angles
VVEL angles
Knock retard (full program)
RPM

My tuner asks for snips of 1minute and in 3-5 logs is able to do wonders.

LOL, I was going to post the items Eugene requested, when I realized he's ByTheBay ^^^

That's a much larger list of metrics than you asked for last year.

That's because I was tuning the car for you. If I were to log a car that was tuned by someone else, I would want to see (for example) if the knock sensors were desensitized or disabled. This can easily be checked by plotting the KS signal per cyl vs KS threshold for that cyl. If you find that the threshold is elevated above factory then the KS has been desensitized for that condition. If you find that when the KS signal exceeds the KS threshold but the ignition correction remains zero, this means the knock sensors have been fully disabled for that condition. Keep in mind, that under some conditions it is necessary to do these things, but they are done with certain risk involved and the customer should always be informed. This is where I find the biggest problems with tuning, is that these things are done carelessly and without customer consent or understanding.

Thanks, that's awesome. I mean, in a perfect situation, you could log any and all parameters available, no? It seems there is a hard limit on how many you can select in EcuTek. Somehow I feel your list is just a few too many for logging on EcuTek?

I am impressed there's a knock sensor for each cylinder?

These parameters are copy and pasted from a real log, so the limit has not been exceeded with these parameters logged. If you have reached a limit it means you have selected parameters that are extra to this list.

there are two knock sensors , the per cyl ks values are interpreted and that’s why each cyl has a different threshold value.

Question 89 parameters?

OK so you gotta teach me lol... You're saying you were able to successfully log all 89 of those parameters you listed on EcuTek?! My EcuTek taps out at about 49. I just counted. If you select more than 49ish, it gives an error "Too many parameters for data logging" and you have to un-check a few to get things moving.

What am I doing wrong if you're saying you can log almost 2x the amount that I can?

You probably have different parameters selected. Post your parameter list so we can identify what doesn't match.

Yeah so I started this thread and if you scroll up you'll see my posts with screenshots of the logging parameters... lol but I will re-post here again as well since I think some new parameters were opened up to me after I finally was able to flash a tune file.

Like I said, ECUTEK has a hard stop/cap/limit on the amount of parameters you can select for data-logging. Unless I'm doing something wrong?

the way you have posted the parameters, it's difficult to compare because the data can't be copied and pasted into a spreadsheet to see side-by-side. but at first glance it looks like you have extra parameters selected. Reset your parameter selection to default and make sure what you have selected matches what I have listed, it will work. There are subclasses of certain parameters where if you select them, even if you still theoretically have more parameters that you could add, you will still get the error message. It's not exactly clear what parameter sub groups those are.

if you need additional support, feel free to call me at the shop or message me on facebook for a real-time interaction.

True enough. And humility is strength.

BTW, the car continues to run very well since your tune last year. Thank you.
