I would like to get HFC CAI and do a muffler delete, however currently only have a budget of 500 or so dollars. Trying to add mods as I get more money. Can I install these mods before a tune and not damage my car? Or do I need to save up to do all of the work at once?
of course I understand that I will not be getting as much performance without a tune, but feel like it would be a waste of money to get a tune kit and tune, then having to retune after installing the mods.

 

You should be fine but depends on the CAI you're going with. Stillen or Takeda and you won't need one; go with Admin and you do.

With $500, I wouldn't even worry about HFCs and CAIs at this point. Go muffler delete and a sway F/R sway bar upgrade. Those two will give you a little more exhaust growl and tighten up the handling.

Do you have a 6sp? If so, clutch spring upgrade would be worth checking into.

 

I have full z1 cold air intakes, z1 high flow cats (although they might as well be test pipes given the 100 cell cat), and full custom exhaust. No tune. I throw a CEL code about once every 1-3 months. Other than that...absolutely no problems.

 

Get you some spacers for the 02s and some 80 grit sand paper for your flanges.

Put your CAIs and HFCs on and save up your money for a tune.

The spacers will increase the possibilities of avoiding a CEL

You should invest in a BT OBD reader and with Torque and OBD fusion you could check your AFRs

So pay attention to your AFRs and as long as it's not too lean you'll be fine until your tune.

If you have not done it yet, I like to run new plugs prior to a tune. Consider this since these plugs are $8+ ea

Pass by your local muffler shop and ask for some quotes, muffler deletes sound horrible in my opinion, a muffler shop exhaust should look decent and sound 10x better than a delete.
