Tuning using a laptop

Hi Guys,

Again, as part of me understanding what i am getting into before i actually do it . Can someone explain to me how can i connect a laptop to my car and view/change the car setup?

Also, is this useful? any benefits for doing so? what can i control or change (if any)?

If you know of any thread (already search but didn't find any) or website that explains the process in details then i would be thankful if you can direct me to it.

Thanks
and happy G cruising

What is it do you expect exactly?

Look up the Cobb Accessport and read about it

Just plug in your computer into the car's USB port. Then you can change your horsepower, MPG, and top speed!

I would suggest you take an EFI tuning course before attempting anything. You CAN potentially damage, and even completely destroy your engine with a bad tune.

First off, you'll need an interface to connect to the OBDII port.

Second, you'll need to crack the ECU, so you can read it, and re-write it as you please. (Or, alternatively, you can purchase existing software that can do this for you. However, I believe COBB/Uprev, the two companies that offer such software, only sell to proven tuners). (Third option: get a piggyback ECU, or even a full standalone).

Third, after you connect your laptop and have a way of altering/creating maps, edit at will.

the only real reason to do your own tuning and adjustment is if you go forced induction... a stock car won't gain much doing so

Someone's been watching too much fast and the furious.

If you don't plan on dropping several thousand dollars on your car, then I don't think you should worry about tuning your car with a laptop.

Maybe a Nissan CONSULT 3 will be enough to do what you want? An internet search will give you more info.
