One hard romp so far and there was a lot of drivetrain vibration felt. Much more visceral. More romping needed.
That's a mixed back of impressions, leaning more towards the unpleasant than otherwise. Is that how you're feeling? You certainly wouldn't be alone in that, if you're not digging the mod. Then again, I see you've added it to your sig line, so...

Talk about it, man. You're the only one here who's done this with the 7AT. Someday, someone is really going to wander through this thread and want your full opinion on the topic.

Would love to try these two mods out. Unfortunately, not in the budget this year and I haven't stumbled across any other members from the Ottawa area to date... let alone ones with either.

Who knows, maybe John will be up here for some random reason some day

Ottawa? No, not really. Besides, all I could do is talk you into something. Installs aren't my bag.

However, research VQ|North. Reach out to hexotic, who's a member here in the forum. VQ|North is a Toronto-ish community, and pretty big. Don't know if its members extend all the way out to Ottawa, though.

And if you find yourself on this side of the lake, let me know. Always eager to show the car off.

One thing I pointed out that I didn't realize before was that I have an 07 G35, whereas most people on here with this mod have a G37. The 07 was notorious for excessive NVH; this included an uber vibrating shifter. Apparently, Infiniti refined this problem over the years.

The point is, maybe there's just an inherent design issue on an 07 that causes an STS to rattle. Or maybe it's just my car that's the problem Either way, an STS just feels too good to give up regardless of the noise.

Mik3G37S doesn't have the rattling issue I had, so it looks like the problem was an isolated incident.

I got tired of the rattling with the B&M STS just like I had with the TWM STS, so I've removed the B&M and I'm now back to the stock shifter. I guess I value a silent shifter more than a short throw, so I'm happy...again. In all honesty, after going back to stock, I don't really miss an STS. The stock shifter is pretty good.

Sucks I couldn't resolve the rattling issue on my 07, but it is what it is.

If anyone is interested in a B&M STS for a good price, PM me.

This morning, I dropped off the car at the mechanic's shop, for installation of Whiteline rear differential bushings, and a gear swap for a 4.083 final drive ratio. Pretty excited about that.

Anyway, after I got home, he called me up to tell me that there was a very pronounced kind of vibration going on. Took him a while to pin-point the behavior, but if you accelerate into third gear to 3500 - 4000 RPM, and then suddenly drop off the pedal, it will create a resonance that you can hear and feel. He wanted me to know this was something pre-existing.

I told him... yeah, I know. It's because of my Z1 Transmission Mount. Just one of the compromises I've been willing to accept.

Thought I'd write about it here while it was fresh in my mind. I think I mentioned it in this thread after last year's install, but... anyway. There it is.

This afternoon I had the opportunity to drive another G37S 6MT Sedan, low-mileage and stock except for the RJM Clutch Pedal Assembly. Very well-kept, clean car. (Thank you, Somename.)

The point of this comment in this thread is simple... the short-throw shifter isn't just a nice-to-have mod. It's next level. And I wouldn't go back to stock for any reason.

The STS is up there with sways. It's a transformational mod.

Yet again, both of you hurting my wallet. That's next on my list, once this subwoofer and headers are in my car next week.

If I bring only one forum member into the dark side because of this thread, then my time here has been well spent.

Being that your car has BOTH, the STS and the trans mount, could some of the "next level" you feel be due to the combination? Or are you simply disregarding the effects of the mount in your analysis...

The transmission mount contributes to the experience, no doubt. But I'm talking about the STS. The shorter throw, the way it clips into gear, the unwavering solid manner when it's in any gear... this is the way you want your shifter configured.

It's been a year now, and this was my first opportunity to look back and compare. The OEM shifting experience is a sloppy, rubbery mess.

Nico-derm, are you driving to PA for the annual meetup? If so, you're encouraged to pass through Rochester NY and drive down together. You can see for yourself what's up with the shifter... if it measures up to the hype.

The STS is definitely on my list of do's. The mount I am interested in trying before going down that road. Every MT driver knows the "slop" felt through the drive line when they get out of the gas.. particularly at lower RPM's. I would love to know if the more solid feeling is worth the extra NVH. I am not afraid of NVH, the G does not have a car seat... but I still have to drive it.

I am trying to make myself available for August, I start a new job on July 17th so there's that.
