DYI: 30-min Invisible Trailer Hitch Mod
#46
2013 Sedan
Has anyone successfully installed this on a 2013 G37 Sedan without any cutting?
Edit: I just looked under the rear of my car and it appears that (at least) the finisher would need to be cut on the Sedan. I wonder if that would have noticeable impact on road noise. The only thing I would worry about would be a whistle of some sort.

Just tried to do this on a 2011 Sedan and it will not work. There is hardly any room between the aluminum bumper beam and the spare tire well. Completely different looking underneath the plastic shield than the coupes. Too bad

Has anyone wired in a harness for trailer lights? If so, did you use CURTs 56033?

I did this last weekend and that was the exact harness kit I used. Plug right in with no splicing of the OEM harness. You will need to jack up the car to run the power cable from the battery to the trunk. 1/2-1h install time is BS unless you're and actual shop. Took me around 2-3.

This was significantly easier then I thought!
1. The metal for the bumper is soft aluminum and is not solid all the way thru. I was wondering what the poster above meant by "finesse", he meant that when you get to the middle you will hit hard metal and the drill will try to fly out of your hand. Noted. You can power thru it.
2. Lay a towel down to deal with the shavings, its alot.
3. I used the 10M x 100 bolts as well as the spacers so I too cleared the bumper.
4. It rattled while I was back there but I cant hear anything when I'm driving. I too, cant explain that.
5. I'm more impressed that you can basically take that receiver off in less then a minute (as OP stated)

1UP USA has a expander ball that forces the rack arm against the inside of the hitch receiver.
But you can get an anti-wobble hitch pin for like $20 bucks that should work with just about anything.
You can use one for the vertical receiver as well to cut down the wobble there too. That's what I did.

That's exactly what I ended up doing. But the anti-rattle pins require a wrench to install since it has a tightening bolt. So I just leave the hitch on there. Unfortunately, that's a minus in my book since I can't take it off fast.

I had gotten pretty good at removing the upper pin with a ratchet. But I eventually got an AK2 rear diffuser which covers the hitch entirely. I just cut a square hole in the center screen. Hardly know it's there. I'll be installing a removable F1 style 4th brake light in that spot with a plug to finish it off.
