how much more difficult or easier is it to just replace the offending gasket as opposed to doing this..
i mean... if we knew the cause.. why not fix it than installing a monitoring tool to wait for it to fail..

From what I've read it's 18 hrs of labor give or take
If this were to happen to mine I guess I'd take a week off of work

So if we had to replace our engine (been following 35Sport's thread here), does anyone have the part number for the upgraded gasket?

Here you go...

Also, here's the thread that explains a lot. Page 9 has some disassembled shots.

Hi Guys,

So i've been reading up on these paper gaskets being a problem and i want to look into monitoring OP. Has anyone installed a OP gauge lately? Is there any advantage or disadvantage going with oil sandwich filter vs block galley plug?
not too many Diy's on the this. Even though this original post was very helpful.
thanks guys

Got my defi racer gauge installed last night. It's installed in it's temporary location the sender wire was way too short, an extension wire is on order. I plan to mount it up on the steering column. If anyone is considering installing one and has questions let me know.

I was thinking of going with this setup. I would custom mount it to look as OEM as possible.

Thanks a lot for this DIY Cliff, installed my guage w/ the glowshift adapter and your grounding trick. Everything worked well and thankfully my oil pressure was very strong never got below 30 and was as high as 124, w/ a cruising PSI of around 70+ at 2k rpms. I'll be taking it on a decent road trip soon so I'll have better data then.

Here's a post w/ ALL the parts #s for a complete repair including timing chain replacement. Previous posts in the thread below also detail the repair steps.

Here's the one I got, it's definitely cheap but w/ the grounding trick that VQSmile details it's working well. Only downside is it comes w/ very short wires so you'll have to splice in some longer ones. I just modified the gauge mount clip so I could just slide it into the keyfob pocket on the lower left panel. Out of the way and easy to remove and no drilling or cutting of any dash pieces.

Thanks. You do not need to drill anything in the pocket? How do you secure it then? Could you post a picture of it?
