DIY: Emblemless Grill
Emblemless Grill
A project i've been working on. I got the grill for dirt cheap so i thought i'd play around with it. This is the process of making an emblemless grill. I didn't have a diy to follow or anything, so hopefully this may help out some people that want to do it. I cut the holes in the grill where the emblem sits, then filled it in with automotive filler, then sanded it down. as you can see there's small holes, so i filled those smaller ones in and now i have to sand it once more... i'll update you guys in a few months when it gets warmer, but its so cold right now and paint wouldn't flow well either way so i stopped working on it.
Difficulty I would say is an 8/10. It seems easy as i originally thought, but it turned out to be extremely hard and in my case, since its my first time doing something like this, i spent countless hours after it. Sanding was a B**** and cutting out the oem plastic was even harder. I don't know what tools professionals use but I used a dremel tool from harbor freight i got for 10 dollars. I would not recommend using that one specifically. I'm sure cutting would have been much easier if i had a more powerful dremel tool
Anyways, I filled in the tiny holes, and now i just have to sand and paint, so in a few months, I'll post the finished product.
IMO, its better off getting this done elsewhere. Its also very dangerous to sand the automotive filler without the proper mask. So please invest in it before it makes you terribly sick.
I will have a more detailed diy once I am finished
For the project I used:
Drill master dremel tool from harbor freight. (came in a set with everything you need for 10 dollars)
Sand paper
Automotive filler from home depot (from paint section)

Looks like you're in the home stretch, the matching of the existing grill rails looks pretty good. I'm sure you've got plenty of man hours and at minimum wage you've probably got several hundred in elbow grease invested
Thanks for the thread and look forward to the finish line.

I found a great diy. I was told i wasn't doing it right on another forum, so i started looking around, but it seems i was doing it perfectly, and there area few different steps that i did, but the one on this page seems like the best diy. I wish I found it before because it seems a lot easier to just follow that.
