I've never had the need to try this reset myself. Judging by the majority of the replies here, if the word "Easy" was removed from the thread title, it certainly wouldn't be missed...

I recently bought a used 2011 G37x sedan. I was not liking the transmission was shifting gears. I followed the reset instructions on this thread to get rid of the parameters in the ECU of the previous owner, and voila... its a completely different car now!

Thanks to all the contributors, on this thread.

I will remember for sure NOT TO USE thing again EVER...I changed my air filters did all this and the car wont start again. The battery is fine as I have lights and everything else is working. Now waiting for the tow truck. Mad mad.
Prob need to stop reading stuff also.

edit: turned out to be a discharged battery..bummer. seems like just a coincidence.

Great helpful thread, but I have 2 questions:

I'll be installing short ram intakes in a week and a half or so, and I assume I should do this to reset the ECU so that it can get a good "read" on the change in intake airflow. Correct?

Should the engine be warmed up before resetting the ECU, or can it be done when the engine is cold?

Finally got it. Counted the seconds in my head and got it by fluke i guess.

im sure it wouldn't flood the car if you couldn't do it like 3 or 4 times right?

If you do it through the gas petal method, no you will not lose anything. If you disconnect the battery, you will lose things like radio presets, window resets...etc.

I got it to work finally. Started the car with MAF unplugged after bulb upgrades. Tried about fifteen times and got frustrated and went and bought some beer.

Next morning tried about 10 more times then drove to O'Rielly to have them reset. They said they werent allowed to any longer. Got back home pulled out my iphone and tried 2 times more and got it on the second try.

Shaved SES light is CLEAN!!!!

I tried befor but did the counting in my head and didn't work for like 7 attempts. But now after my r2c i was determined and i used my iphone to count the seconds and first try bam. My car was warmed up, audio, air off and only left side map light on so i can see the instructions eventhough i had it memorized. i think i messed up on the 7seconds count by letting it go over 7 seconds but, everything else i went with 10secs pressed, 10secs waited then 10 secs pressed then i truned off and start car up and gtg.
