Masking tape residue, how to remove?

I just bought an older Mazda Protégé to daily as I build my G coupe and the last owner was careless to say the least. I am down to the last little fix until its completely drivable and done. The trunk wouldn't stay closed and locked before so he used clear masking tape across the entire trunk to keep it closed. I have fixed the trunk and removed the tape but the residue has been sun baked on there for almost a year. I have tried alcohol, goo gone, WD40 and nothing has worked. The stuff is like concrete hard now. Short of just wet sanding it all off is there any buffer pads or chemicals you recommend using first? For the record, this car has dents and dings and sun burn paint everywhere so this wont be a detailing queen, just want the really tacky looking tape residue removed. Thanks for any help you can offer!

Try an eraser wheel. I used one on the G and my wifes yukon for removing side trim glue and when removing the emblems.

That looks perfect. I assume just hit it with the usual compound and buff then wax after and it should be ok?

DO NOT use a magic eraser on your car's paint. It will scuff the hell out of the paint because it is extremely abrasive. That's a horrible suggestion.
