Gas on the paint

So I was pumping gas this mornig, 93 octane of course ... and the handle didnt automatically click off once it reached the vent. So I got some on the side of the car just below the gas door..... will this harm the paint at all? I've never actually had this happen to me before so I've never researched it. Search came up short on here as well.

Gas is a pretty good solvent, but I assume you wiped it all up. You're fine, I wouldn't let it sit on the paint for a week, though. Any standing liquid should be wiped off promptly. I'd be more concerned about all that money (gasoline) that you just lost to the ground.

The solvents in gasoline evaporated before you started the car to leave the pump. Don't worry about it. The worst it will do is strip your wax or sealant off the finish in that area. No harm to the paint. If it's the first time you've spilled gas while pumping, you must be really careful or haven't been driving that long.

Brake fluid is a completely different story and will eff your paint up 6 ways to Sunday. Wipe it off and clean it immediately.

Been driving for 10 years, just havent had a gas pump that didnt quit at the vent. I was pissed though, i think a small splash is all that was lost, maybe a half a cup.

Naaaaa it will be fine. It will however take the wax right off. Just rewax that area and you'll be good.
