Superficial 3 inch scratch on paint

What would you guys suggest to get rid of the scratch? It is a straight scratch that has no divid. I can take a pic if needed.

I am ordering detail stuff today so I just want to make sure I order what is needed for the scratch too n

Post a pic. Do you have a Flex or PC? If your fingernail doesn't catch in the scratch, it can probably be polished out with a polisher. Try a medium cutting polish first like Power Finish. If it's a deeper scratch, try some Power Gloss and finish up with something like PO85RD.

What do you mean by flex or pc?

My finger nail does not catch at all. Can I hand polish the scratch?

You can try. It may improve it some. But machine polishing will get it out completely. PC or Flex random orbital polishers.

I do not unfortunately. Sounds like my best bet is to go to a detailer?

If you don't plan to invest in a polisher, I would take it to a professional detailer. Not a dude washing cars, but a pro who can actually correct it and not just try to hide it with some glaze and wax.

I know a guy, expensive though, at least I think he is. He wants $400 to detail the entire exterior. Sounds like a lot or is that reasonable?

Depends on his skill level and what all that entails. If he's good and is doing a full 2 stage polish, seal, LSP, and exterior dressing, it sounds in the ballpark.

He mentioned the following:

Wash
Dry
Clay
Sealent
glaze
3 stage polish
Wax

I was at his place today to have him look at my head light to see if he could can the scratch out of the lens any more than I could. After some more wet sanding we could only 'hide' the scratch slightly more.

He was just finishing up a beautiful Audi R8 so hopefully he is good or that Audi owner will be pissed!
