Leatherique Review: 2 Vehicles - 2 Products

I went about applying the Leatherique products (Rejuvenator & Pristine Clean) on two very different subject vehicles.

The first test vehicle is a 2004 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition. It has the beige/white inner leather which I figured would a great test for the review. The Explorer seats were a mess, heavily soiled.

The second test vehicle was 2004 Chrysler Crossfire. All black leather interior. The leather was in great condition before the test started.

Process:

-Clean with APC.
-Cover center console/seat belt receptacles with towels and rags.
-Apply the Rejuvenator Oil by hand.
-Let the oil sit (3) hours.
-Clean and wipe away remnants with Pristine Clean.

Final Impressions:

The leather on both vehicles is much, much, more supple and soft after testing. Leatherique smells great, a nice natural smell that is reminiscent of fresh new leather. The Ford's leather was cardboard hard. After applying two coats it was considerably softer.

After my review, I can make the generalization that the Leatherique products work great on conditioning the leather but lack true cleaning power. I was very impressed with the results on the Crossfire, which was well cared for. The leather is now incredible soft. On the other hand, the Ford produced lack luster results due to the heavily soiled leather.

Update: After a good 24 hours from application I can say the leather is even softer. It seems the Rejuvenator keeps on working deep in the leather even after applying Pristine Clean.

I been wanting to try this product. Since is takes so much time, would you use Leatherique Bi-Weekly or monthly or everytime you condition your seats? or do you use it less often like twice a year and use a lighter conditioner in between?
or is Leatherique for mild-severe leather restoration?

Don,

Thanks for the write up and your impressions. It's funny how people tend to be intimidated by cleaning and caring for leather, so it's good to show just how easy it is to work with.

Actually the RO/PC has tremendous cleaning ability, but it is dependent upon both heat and time. If you allow RO to really work itself into the surface and break down the grime for at least 8 hours while "baking" in a hot car, it does a tremendous job. Having said that however, I rarely leave it on for less than 24 hours! For this product...the longer you allow it to work, the better the results. You said that the seats felt softer after about a day, and that's proof right there that over time the RO continues to work itself deep into the fibers of the leather. For very dry leather, you will continue to experience softening over a couple of weeks.

Another key for the cleaning process (during application of PC) is to use a leather brush or soft toothbrush to agitate the surface and remove the most stubborn dirt residue (in cracks, folds, and seams in particular). I'll spray on the PC, agitate as necessary, let it dwell for a few minutes, and then continue with the product removal process.

It is recommended to use the full system twice per year, and for regular maintenance cleaning you can use just the Prestine Clean as it works great as an all-in-one leather cleaner/conditioner/protectant.

Thanks again for the review!
