clearcoat touchup

Does anyknow if there is a also a special touch-up clearcoat for our cars that goes along with the touchup paint that you get from the dealer(Black Obsidian). I have some rock chip nicks in the hood that don't go all the way through to the paint but don't seem to be "healing".

2009 G37x Coupe - Black Obsidian

Thanks

There are spray-can clearcoat. Maybe you can try spraying some onto a fine brush and apply it.

If you are going to mess with the clear coat, better make sure you know how to wet sand and all that jazz...

The self healing clearcoat does work, but only for very minor swirls, not scratches you can feel with your finger. Also, it can take months to notice. I don't think that special clearcoat can be bought in "pen" form.

When you get the Nissan touchup pen, one side is the paint and the other side is the regular clear coat.

I got the tube of touch up paint from my Infiniti dealer. It was just paint - had the option of using the inside brush or a roller tip - but there was definitely no clear coat.

Is there a separate touch up tube of the self- healing clearcoat available??

Thanks

That's weird, my pen has one tip that's paint, and the other that's clear coat. I don't think the clear coat can be bought, I think it has to be factory. You can probably check on ebay for the dual tip pens. If the scratch is small, whether the clear coat is self healing or not shouldn't really matter.

healing clear coat can be purchased. PPG has been producing it for years.
