DIY: Volk GT30 cleaning tool
DIY: Volk GT30 cleaning tool
We talked about this on another thread but this idea is so perfect it deserves it's own thread. So the problem is that little area under the spokes that's really a pain to clean. The cut cloth idea was good but it still takes some work to get in all the nooks and crannies with a cloth that has no rigidity to it.
Enter the RS1 (Red's Solution 1) GT30 Wheel cleaner. The RS1 is a DIY modification on a readily available wheel cleaner you can find at your local Walmart or auto parts store. It's a black and Blue nylon coated wire soft bristle brush with both a blue and black wire loop that closes in the handle. Here's how you build it.
1. Cut one of the wire loops not in the center but a few inches over to give you a little more wire. Try to dull the cut wire end as much as possilbe with pliers.
2. Grab some heat shrink and push it up the wire as far as possible leave a few millimeters beyond the cut end and melt it into place. Use the extra heat shrink to pad the cut wire and then put another layer of heat shrink over that and seal with heat.
3. Cut the remaining wire at the hilt and then grab the other loop and wrap it around the handle. You should have something that looks like below.
Now spray a little detailer in that tough spot and stick this in the hole... you know how to do that right.. good and work it baby. You'll be amazed at how fast and how thorough this cleans that area. You can do a wheel in record time now.
