Hard Water!!!

Hey I have a question. So I have been neglecting to clean my G since I installed overlays last week and was told to wait a week to clean it. Anyway, I parked next to a sprinkler a couple days ago that went off and it got some REALLY nasty hard water on my car, which I failed to clean. This morning I tried wiping a small section of my car and the hard water imprint won't come off!!

Does anyone know what I can do about this? My girlfriends car has the same issue and she said she hasn't been able to get it off her car either.

Any contributions appreciated.

If the minerals in the water have etched the clear coat you may have to polish it with an abrasive polish.

Yo can try CG Water Spot Remover, if that doesn't work then you'll need some polishing.

Haha damn I'd really hate to spend 20 bucks and realize it won't work.

I heard you could use vinegar...i dabbed a little on a towel and tried on a small spot on the car. it did remove most of it, but from certain angles, i could still see the outline of the water spot. maybe i should have soaked the area and let it sit first.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to wash my car for another two weeks since I'll be on travel starting tomorrow. At least the car will be garaged so no further damage should be done (i.e. sun).

Any other comments are much appreciated. thanks for the input guys!

Using distilled white vinegar is great to use to remove mineral deposits that are left on the paint. It sounds to me like you have some mineral deposits left, but also some etching may have occurred. Water spot etching requires an abrasive polish to remove properly and sometimes can be difficult to completely eliminate the marks in full. You'll get the best results if you're using a quality buffer, like the PC7424 or Flex XC3401VRG.

I'd go over your car with the vinegar in a spray bottle, using it like a quick detailer. Keep in mind, the vinegar will probably eat away any protection you may have on your paint so you'll want to follow it up with some protection after. You'll probably want to rinse, re-wash the car, or use a clay bar before applying your protection to ensure all the vinegar is off your paint.

Hope this helps.

George

Thanks for the tip George.

Using pure vinegar is okay right? Or would you recommend diluting it with water?
