Yesterday I saw a Porter Cable 6 inch random orbital buffer (model 7336) for $52 Canadian. About $40 U.S. I nearly bought it as I thought it was very similar to the 7224 but was afraid it might damage the paint. The sales guy had no clue.

Anyone have experience with the 7336?

It is the exact same tool as the 7424 except it has a 6" counterweight which is what you need anyway for 6.5" pads. Buy all that they have at that price and sell them to other members! Hell, I'll take one if shipping isn't too high!

I read this on another site that had info on the scratch shield. Is this true? how long does this scatch shield paint last?
I think that's BS. Chemical property doesn't change, only fade overtime. Infiniti says it last about 3 years.

So I took your advice and went back to the store to pick up the one and only PC 7336. The sticker price was $51.95 and the same sales guy said this was the price, however the computer was smarter. The computer said $174 and his manager got involved. They said someone had changed the tag (it wasn't stuck on very well and this is probably true).

In the end I took it for $140 Cdn ($115 US) and they included the hook-n-loop 6" backer pad and several lamb's wool buffers. Don't really know if this was a good deal or not but certainly not as good as the $51 price tag. Now I need to buy the foam pads and get busy.

That sucks. I wouldn't have bought it for that price, simply because I'd be mad that they didn't sell it at the lower price on the sticker. The price you got if for was about what you should expect to pay. Some retailers in the US (Lowe's for example) stopped stocking that model and it was marked way down to about $40 or $50 and I thought that might be the case with your purchase. Were they all marked that low, or were the rest marked at $140 as well?

You can get pads for it at Detailed Image. I don't know where you can find them locally, I never have around where I live.

I was certainly hesitant, but the sticker had clearly been tampered with. I asked about the PC 7424 and the computer said there was only one in Canada left (this was at the Porter Cable factory store). They also said it would take about 3 months to get another by ordering. Ordering from the US is not usually attractive as we get dinged 15% in taxes plus another 6% in duties, plus brokerage and shipping fees.

There was only one available listed at $174 in the computer. Taking what was available was not ideal, but I have it in my hands now.
