Before the winter hits..

Hey guys, winter here in NY is cold as hell, rains/hails/snows the whole bit. Now im wondering what i should do before my baby sits in the garage for the majority of the winter. Im thinking a nice strong paste wax, not no NXT.. Maybe airplane wax? My dealer told me about it he said great stuff. And/or should i clay bar it?

What products are the better long term products? (wax/clay bar)

I also heard that clay baring takes off your clear coat, vero or falso?

Thanks gus

P.S if you guys vote, please list the name of the items thats prefered. Thanks

Clay bar takes the dirt out of the clear coat/paint. It doesnt protect.

SO clay bar, then wax.

Keep in mind i have no idea what im talking about lol

Don't wax for the winter, it'll be long gone before the winter is over... use sealant! Or if you really want to wax, seal then wax! Or clay bar, seal, then wax!

yeah, what you want is a sealant on your car. i recently winter prep'd my car too.

here's what I would have done if i had the time and energy

wash
clay
polish - this is more for myself because i hate swirls. DO NOT LET DEALERS WASH
sealant - cured for as long as i could
wax - for cool looks!

Sealant is where the protection lies. It stays on for a good couple of months. Some last even longer than that. Here's a small list of good sealants that I'd recommend to people.

CG jetseal 109 - lasts about 4 months, but this gives off a really good shine which is why many choose it as their favorite. very easy to use too
zaino z2 - this one is the pain in the *** to apply from what i've heard, but it lasts up to half a year, so for a pure sealant, Z2 > jetseal
Duragloss 105 - I've heard so many great things about its durability that I can confidently recommedn it to others. I've yet to try it myself, so don't ask me about its shine or durability. I'm sure it'll last at least 4 months.

I would personally coat your ride with Migliore, but I'm biased! I know you've enjoyed our products previously.

I recently pulled my Jeep (winter car) out of my backyard to prep it for winter. It stays outside 24/7 and after three months the water was beading incredibly still.

answer depends on the current condition of your car but if you have the time I would do a full detail.

wash
clay
polish
seal (I use Chemical Guy Jet Seal 109 but I hear FMJ is also good)
wax few layers as an option

I use everything from www.griotsgarage.com They have great products, and amazing customer service. Also agree with everyone else on the full detail and the order they list. Wash, clay, polish, seal, wax.

FYI: I've spent a lot of money with them, and I keep spending more. There's always something else I want.
