How often do you guys condition your leather? I've had my car for 3 months now and I am tempted to condition it, but I do not want to get rid of the new car smell, haha.

Haven't done it yet either. Car is also 3 months old.

 

I only do the front seat (back ones get no use) probably once every two months but haven't done em yet.

 

do it asap, the new car smell is bad for your health. car is also 3 months old. anyone barely rides in my car only for myself, so that is a relieve..

 

Hmm... if you condition it that doesn't mean you would get rid of the new car fumes... wouldn't that just cover them up so either way you'd be inhaling the new car toxins plus whatever you use to condition it?

 

^^Yes sumo8me, can someone post a link to a reputable site (a medical site would be good) that show that new car fumes are dangerous for you? I remember hearing this a long time ago but I seriously doubt the strength of this rumor. I would bet it is a urban legend. The new car smell might have been dangerous in the past due to some process that was done on car parts but I highly doubt that is still true. So someone step up and provide proof that new car smell is bad for you.

 

I think i heard it on the discovery channel, haha. Is that proof enough? Although im not positive i heard it from there... i remember hearing it somewhere though =)

 

^Still counting it as an urban legend. I remember hearing this years ago but I cannot remember where and I never got proof that it is true.

Thanks bfranks for the links. Now this makes sense. So this shows that if the new car smell is not there it could still be harmful. The smell has nothing to do with it. The solution to helping with this then is not an air freshener or leather conditioner but opening your windows when you drive and not parking in the sun.

 

Actually there are studies that say it is and studies that say it is not...
