scratches and ding help

Last week after washing the car, I noticed 2 light scratches and a pretty bad ding on the lower side of the rear bumper. Have no idea what happened because I don't think I dropped anything there. Possibly something ran into me? Shopping cart? Anyway, I went to 2 places for a quote on fixing it, both came out to be ~$350 because they'd have to do the entire bumper, including a new clear coat. Does anyone know of any temporary fix that would make it a little better? I stumbled upon this, seems sketchy but it's relatively cheap and worth a shot? I saw the clear coat pen work in a video and it looks pretty effective, but I don't know....

the fix pen would not work but you could give it a shot. try buffing it out or something, the ding looks pretty bad.

Pretty bad gash. I don't really see just getting by on that. Besides just waiting a little longer before having it done. It's really a matter if you can live with it or not. But I can see why they would want to paint the entire bumper. This way the paint would blend correctlly instead of just that area. Sounds like they at least want to it right? Not bad of price for just painting a hole bumper. As long as the paint matches.

Yea, the reason why they'd have to do the whole bumper is so the target region matches with the rest of the bumper.

What do you guys recommend on buffing it out with?

The scratches will probably polish out, but that gash isn't going anywhere. I would contact George from DI, he can hook you up.

I found a very small blemish on my rear bumper as well. The culprit was the lawn workers with their damned mowers. Apparently it flung something up that hit the back end of my car!

That is one possibility.

I'm sure there is a grit of sandpaper you could use to smooth it out and touch it up.

Like everyone said the scratches will come out but that ding is a different story. If you want you can try and fill the ding in with a lot of touch up paint. Wet sand the excess down and hit it with a buffer to buff out the wetsand marks, but its not a guarantee. It'll also be hard to buff the bumper since the paint is usually a lot thinner then the body panels itself

You can get that spot repaired for probably less than $100
