California Duster, Leaves oil residue

I only washed my California duster about twice in the years I've owned it. But overtime I've done this, afterwards it will leave an oil residue or some type of residue that smudges when wiping the car down. I wash it in an old washier I have. Plain cheap washing powder. Now after it's been used for a while or gets dirtier it works fine. What's up with that? How to you clean yours thoroughly? I know some say the dirtier the better it works. But not sure about that. But it almost seems to be true at the same time.

You aren't supposed to clean them I thought. I've never cleaned mine, just shake it out.

I just bought another one after mine got really dirty. You can wash it though, it says it on the little card that's attached to the leather carrier.

That residue might mean you're putting a little too much preassure when you're wiping the car down.

They tend to leave a lil' bit of waxy residue when they're new too, regardless of the pressure.

Maybe you got tire shine on it? I've had that happen before.

I think I'll just go out and buy another. I know there isn't tire shine on it. Never use the stuff. I don't like tire shine products. I just clean them well and let them be. This is the look I like.

these are very bad for your paint. some people love tehm some hate them. I am one who is not a fan. The reason is that you are using something Dirty to keep you car clean. it will leave little marks in your paint, hairline scratches in the clear. I am to **** to use anything other than a microfiber and some sort of quick detailer, spray lubricant.

It's definatly hard to do. But even with spray and microfiber I've seen fine scratches form. But you have to except it's going to happen.

I totally agree...2 microfibers and an instant detailer. That duster does more harm than good...but I live right on the beach so when it is really moist out (marine layer)...it completely annihilates the finish if there is any sort of dust and smears the shiz out of it...especially on black!
Chalk me up as +2
