It doesn't say to leave it in open air, it says to set it on some newspaper/paper towels for a few days. Using it right away was your problem, you just smeared the wax all over your car. The product wasn't at fault, you just didn't follow the directions
i have a cali duster that i've had for about two months now. when i first bought it, i let it sit on newspaper for two days, then changed the paper, and let sit for two more.
i still get random wax smears here and there. works great for dusting though, but it's just a pain to have to break out the quick detailer right after on those smeared spots.
