I just purchased a brand new G37s and the paint has swirl marks all over it from dealer prep. What is the best place to start in removing the swirl marks since the car is relatively clean at this point. Do I need to clay?
Hey George,
Great thread! I am planning a full detail on my black G37 couple next week. I plan on using Menzerna polishes working from very abrasive to fine. I plan on sealing it but i dont know what to go with. Any recomendations? After seal i am going to hit it with a coat of dodojuice carubana wax. Thanks!

Hey guys, I apologize for the delayed reply, I've been out of town for the past week for a big show.
Anytime, let me know what else I can help with.
Both of these are typically dealership applied sealants that are no better than over the counter products. They usually charge an arm and a leg for the application and make ridiculous claims on the durability and protection. Your best bet would be to invest in a proven sealant such as Blackfire Wet Diamond, which is used by many top professional detailers. Check out our customer reviews on BFWD as well.
I'll usually go over trim with a good chemical polish, such as Klasse All In One. You want to make sure that you don't get it on the surrounding areas, but it can help remove oxidation and increase the gloss and depth as well as protect the trim.
Sounds good, let me know if there's anything else I can help with.
I'd recommend starting with a quality wash kit for your washing and drying needs. It's important to learn how to wash properly since this is typically where swirls and other imperfections in your paint stem from.
You could follow the wash with a clay bar to remove stubborn contamination that wasn't removed during the typical wash step. This will help properly prep the surface for maximizing your protection. The only thing you have to look out for here is that you have the potential to mar the finish by claying, which would require polishing after. To polish after, I'd suggest something like Meguiar's M205 to remove light marring from clay.
For protection, I'd highly recommend using Blackfire Wet Diamond. It's one of our best sealants, durable, easy to use, leaves a super slick and deep gloss finish. You'll be impressed.
Let me know if you have any other questions on anything.
Haha, thanks for the kind words. I am not too experienced with what strippers smell like, but to describe it, it has a slight fruity smell and a mix of what I'd say is like womens perfume. I think it has a vanilla base. Most people have enjoyed that have gotten in my car after I've sprayed it, both men and women, actually more women comment on how they like the scent.
Glad to hear it improved the results. Your best bet whenever you aren't getting the results you are looking for are to do the following:
Work the polish slower and longer
If it's improving results, perform another application
Work in a smaller area
Bump up the aggressiveness of the pad
Bump up the aggressiveness of the polish
Sorry I didn't get to reply in time when you first posted.
Claying won't remove swirls, if anything it can add some light marring to the finish. If you truly want to remove swirls effectively, you'll want to invest in a quality buffer. As a bare essentials kit to remove swirls and imperfections, this Porter Cable 7424XP package with pads and Meguiar's polishes gets you everything you need to get started. I'd recommend picking up a few more pads, but you'd have enough polish for a couple of times. I'd recommend reading this M105/M205 how-to to ensure you get some quality results the first time around. I'd also recommend checking out our polishing guide for more information on properly correcting your paint.
Hey Tom, as I've mentioned to some others in this reply, I'd highly recommend Blackfire Wet Diamond. It hasn't disappointed in any category and is our best sealant that we sell IMO. Check the customer reviews and here's a professional product review as well.
This car definitely has a very soft paint. A buffer can be a great thing if used properly. However, since I live in an apartment building, plugging in any kind of power tools or even just washing the car on your own can be a challenge. For now I guess I will try to do all I can by hand.
George, thank you as always for all your advice.

Hey George -
I just bought a 08' G37. I'm coming from a car that I didn't care at all about the aesthetics, so I know nothing about washing/detailing. I'm wondering if you can line me up with a good, but not over the top system for cleaning and providing the exterior with some protection and shine. I have nothing, so I would need everything from shampoo to mitt to towels as well as sealant and wax or whatever you'd recommend. I've read through this post, so I have some idea, but I would like to know what are currently the best options/products. Also I live by the bay, in SF, so I'd like to hear what you'd recommend for keeping the paint as safe and good-looking as possible. Thank you very much!

Ok, don't take this the wrong way... I love your site, your help to people... All awesome. I like just checking out what is on there and wishing I could spend more money.
That being said, I went on there this morning, and checking out the 7 hot deals or whatever... I have to ask....
Is this stuff for real?!????
Chemical Guys Stripper Scent - Smell of Success - 16 oz | Detailed Image
WTF? Does that really smell like strippers or is that a sell "method"? Do people want you to put that in their car?
More details, please?

Hey guys, I know I've come across this countless times, but I can't seem to find the answer nor do I remember.. I'm in the middle of polishing my co-workers Lexus and the hood is in really bad condition... I've used Menzerna SIP with orange pad and it's still pretty swirly... if I use the yellow pad would it give me better results? then would I just follow up with the Menzerna PO106ff w/ white pad and be good to go?

Hi George, I find myself using Optimum Quick Detailer after every wash and will soon be ordering the big 128oz can since I use it so much. I also liked Optimum spray wax, I use it after maintenance washes sometimes. After washing and drying the car, would you recommend finishing up with optimun quick detailer for gloss and then putting some optimum spray wax on top? I tried that a couple of times and it looked pretty good, but wanted to double-check. thanks!

i use poorboys spray and wipe in between washes to clean up small sections of my car hit with bird drops, dirt etc. Am i putting minor scratches into the clear cloat using this product before i rinse the car off first? if not how does this product keep that from happening? i have been washing my car once every 1 to 2 weeks while driving it quite a bit.

hey george,
thanks for helping all of us out
here's my problem:
someone backed up into my car and left some scuff marks and a small dented scratch. now over the last few days the white coloration is almost gone and it's very hard to see the damage, however i'd still like to get rid of it. there's a spot full of marks and then on the right of it there are more of the scuff marks but in small density.
i was going to use a PC to remove it. on the forum was i recommended a couple of combinations of products (M105/M205 is one of them)
what would you recommend i use to fix this? thanks a bunch.

Hey George, any special promo codes going on now?
Im about to place an order for some wax. I've used Dodo juice soft wax (Purple haze) and LOVE the stuff. Just it doesn't last too long. So i have been looking at their hard wax (blue velvet).
I love the wet deep look it gives my black car. Now my plan was to get both! and layer the soft wax over the hard wax. Would u recommend this or would this just be a waste of time and money?
Thanks George.

I'm having a good day so I created a coupon code for G37 members who read this thread... discount code is G37AAP and is good for 15% off + $4.99 flat rate shipping... This is valid through 7/31/10 and no minimum spend is required. Spread the word when you can

If you're a fan of how the PH looks and want to stack it with something slightly more durable, then you could go with the Blue Velvet underneath. The difference in protection isn't night and day, if you were more concerned about underlying protection, I'd suggest using a sealant under instead. Something like Blackfire Wet Diamond or Menzerna Power Lock would be nice options. It is a really nice combo to layer the Dodo waxes. Be sure to give each coat a full 24 hours before applying the next one though for optimal results.

Should i let the first coat of wax (Blue velvet) cure for 24hr before applying the 2nd coat (Purple Haze)? or can i just go back to back.
Thanks

The PC with the M105 / M205 would be a great way to tackle those imperfections. M105 is capable of removing some deeper imperfections and M205 will help finish the paint to a nice deep gloss again. Definitely a great combo especially on a PC. Keep us posted how things turn out for you.
Another question if you don't mind.. my dad has a WEN polishing machine (not sure of the model) that i can use since he never does, or i could buy a PC7424. Would using the WEN give me the same or close to the same results? if I can avoid having to buy a machine i will, to save money. I just don't know if what WEN makes is good or not or if the 7424 is more newbie friendly. not many reviews on the WEN.. only one dating from 2002.
