The iPike is T-rated, so I guess more aggressive and less performance-oriented than an H-rated tire?

If one had the choice between the Hankook iPike or the Toyo Garit KX (which is T-rated), what would you recommend?

I only really drive around the GTA, so not much deep snow. 50% highway, 50% city.

So, thoughts? Toyo or Hankook? Or, other?

BTW, got great pricing and excellent initial service from Allen at Simply Tire.

I prefer to focus more on traction (for safety) than on performance for a winter tire.

Are you saying that the Hankooks have better traction than the Toyo?

I'd agree with you in your priorities, especially for a RWD car like the G, but I'm trying to figure out how much traction I'd actually be giving up with the Toyos, as opposed to the improvement in dry grip, road noise, and longevity.

No, not at all. I have never used these Hankook or Toyo tires so I can't say anything good or bad about them other than I've heard they are good tires.
As you said, there are other considerations which are personal preference. Noise, wear etc. I don't drive many km's in the winter months so new regular winter tires will last me 6 to 7 seasons.

I have used Blizzak (LM) winter performance tires (got them used on rims for a great price) and Blizzak (WS) winter tires and they are two very different tires. They both do what they are designed to do and do it very well. The LM will not bite into the snow/ice and start/stop your vehicle like the WS tires will and for me that's the point of a winter tire...starting and stopping.

Like I said, I really don't mind that I sacrifice a little performance for a little added safety.

I'm not familiar with the wheels they were mounted on, but I'm pretty sure Tirerack has the Xi2s on wheels for like $1200-#1300 So.. maybe not the greatest deal.

Come to Canada and buy tires sometime. You wouldn't like it.

The same setup, shipped to me from Tirerack, is $1778.00 and that's not including hub rings, installation (if I let them), free services I will get from the local tire shop (5miles from my house) like flat repair, tire rotations and re-balance if/when needed.

Most Canadian places, online and local, want $1850-$1900 for what I just got. At $1627, I got a pretty good deal.
