Looking to buy trade my Nissan Sentra for a G37
Hello everyone,
Looking for some insight to what I've been thinking about. Right now I have a 2013 Nissan Sentra with an M6 in it. Mechanically this car is good but given my situation with me having to make 250+ mile trips each month to Orlando I'm starting to want something that gives a better ride. In order for me to get the Sentra with an M6 I had to accept their most basic car. Which means no leather interior, cruise control, backup camera, bluetooth and other things. Also if a car is traveling at a high rate of speed or a cross wind comes then I'm blown all over the place. That being said I started to look at the G35s and 37s. Not sure if the G35s will fit my needs given their age now even though the price is better. I like the 37s more because my ex girlfriend's mom had one and when I rode in it I loved them. I've done my research on car complaints.com and I see that the biggest issues can be the dashboards cracking according to the site. Haven't seen any major mechanical failings. That being said I have a few questions:
1. How long do these engines last?
2. How long do the automatic transmissions last?
3. In the price range I want to pay cash for the car I see many have a lot of high miles 120k+. Hows the maintenance after 100k ok these cars? My Sentra currently has 103k on it.
4. I am decent with working in cars. Can you do some maintenance yourself on these? Moat complicated job I did on an automobile was a radiator and fuel pump swap.
5. If the transmission goes can a independent mechanic work or rebuild the transmission or does it have to be done at the dealership along with any ECU reflashes?
6. How's the ride on these cars for a 4 to 8 hour trip?
7. These cars only take premium gas correct?
8. How are the higher mileage cars over the road?
9. My Sentra would need about $1k to $1.5k to add the things I want to it aftermarket. I could save this cash and add with a trade for a G37.

That being said I have a few questions:
1. How long do these engines last?
Take care of them and they're very stout.
2. How long do the automatic transmissions last?
They're stout as long as you service them. Lifetime fluid is BS
3. In the price range I want to pay cash for the car I see many have a lot of high miles 120k+. Hows the maintenance after 100k ok these cars? My Sentra currently has 103k on it.
I'd want to see the transmission serviced at least once and the front and rear diffs serviced along with the transfer case. Brake fluid changes before that and coolant is due at 100k.
4. I am decent with working in cars. Can you do some maintenance yourself on these? Moat complicated job I did on an automobile was a radiator and fuel pump swap.
Very easy. Tons of DIYs on here and Youtube.
5. If the transmission goes can a independent mechanic work or rebuild the transmission or does it have to be done at the dealership along with any ECU reflashes?
Indy can work on it.
6. How's the ride on these cars for a 4 to 8 hour trip?
Never sat in it for that long consecutively but drove the car 100 miles everyday for work for a few years and took multiple trips to and from NY in the same day and was never sore.
7. These cars only take premium gas correct?
No* you can run regular but wouldn't recommend it. If this is a concern, get an Altima.
8. How are the higher mileage cars over the road?
Not sure I understand the question..
9. My Sentra would need about $1k to $1.5k to add the things I want to it aftermarket. I could save this cash and add with a trade for a G37.

Your MPG will be cut in half, and you'll be paying for 91 octane (or 93 if you can't get 91 in your area.)
Do the math. If it doesn't matter, by all means the G will be an extremely rewarding upgrade from a Sentra.
We have a Sentra in the driveway. God I hate that car. But honestly, it's the CVT that I hate.

The gas isn't that big of a deal. I know how some automobiles can be funny with the gas they take. My truck is like that and I always run 89 octane in my Sentra. Also with the Altimas I would only get one with the M6. CVT = 💩💩💩💩💩💩. Last I saw they only offer those in the coupes and I haven't seen anything after 2008 with this configuration.
That's good to know these are long lasting cars. As for my #9 that's a statement. On one side it may seem cool to spend the 1k to $1.5k to upgrade the things I want in the Sentra but the Infiniti is just better overall.

I would look at a Q60 especially if you want automatic. I have a beautiful black / black G37 coupe ... I wish I wasn’t so fixated on the manual transmission. I got a Qx50 loaner and the FI twin turbo motor has *****. Or maybe you buy a Q60 and we can trade ! lol
