Looking for a coupe in the BayArea

I'm in the market for a 2008-2012 coupe.

If anyone on this forum is interested in selling their car or knows of a good car, please respond.

This will be my first G37, any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Could someone here opine on whether the "rear timing cover gasket leak" is common problem?

I have found a 2010 Conv I am interested in but from what I have read, Infinity only internally fixed this issue with the 2012 and above models?

Too common for my taste, but I have a 2011. I suspect it is helped by Synthetic Oil and bad gasket design. The infiniti store says that the tolerances aren't tight enough for full synthetic. My car has 158k and I wanted to use full synthetic, but I am going to stay on Semi Syn. Other's will argue with me, but from what I can see, everyone who complained about having to have the car repaired was running synthetic.

I bought the car at 158k, so who am I to judge, other than, I can't find evidence that this car has ever had a rtcgl. Hopefully it never will.

^^ Your car has 158k and you bought it at 158k - I don't think this is a long time for you to construct an opinion about it

I know that the ones who have had issues had far less miles than mine. Somehow mine has held together. One of the things I have found out it that it has always been on Semi-Synthetic. Now maybe it isn't just a gasket issue, but perhaps a torque issue. Toyota on the 1987-1992 Supra's had an issue with Torguing the Head Gaskets. Perhaps some of these covers didn't get enough torque.

How many on here have had the problem who are running Semi-Syn?

Thank you for your input!

The car in question has been serviced only at the dealership, including oil changes. I assume the dealer is using a fully synthetic as the engine oil.

Is there any data out there documenting the percentage of cars that had to have the gadget replaced? I don't really want to gamble and even an oil pressure check is only going to tell me the condition now, not months from now. I'm thinking the extended warranty is going to be too expensive but maybe it's worth it. I really like this 2010 but I guess I'll have to play it safe and buy at 2012 or newer?

The newer the better. I didn't want a vert for the extra weight. I have never seen proof of the dealer using synthetic. My local does sell a mobil 1 upgrade.

EZ,

Thank you so much for all the links. The vert looks nice but looks too modified. I'm pretty much done with modded cars. I'm going to go look at it, anything in particular I should look out for on a modded car? Are engine mods a red flag?

Thank you in advance.

Bolt on's shouldn't be too big of a concern, since they don't affect engine output by much. The main things I would check on a modded G are suspension and fender/fender liners. The previous owner could have slammed the car and bottomed out countless times. If you're looking at a vert, you may want to read more about possible issues with the roof.

The biggest variables that should affect your decision are model year, mileage, and maintenance records. There's no statistic regarding the % of G's that were affected by the rear timing gasket issue, but our best guess is that there's a lower risk with 2012+ models.

Update

I found a car and am a proud new owner of a 2011 G37S Conv.

It's a black auto with grey interior, 45K on the clock, and from what I can determine, every option possible?

I have never owned an auto and it sure is nice not to have to shift anymore, at least on the way to work.

Great car, only complain is you would think that the trunk would go up automatically? Well, maybe something to do with it being a conv.

I'll post pics soon, been so rainy here, still haven't put the top down yet.
