Hey guys!

I'm thinking about buying a 2012 g37 sedan. It has 72,000 miles. The dealer is selling it for 18,700. It doesn't have navigation or any of the optional packages. It's not an Infiniti certified car but is sold by the Infiniti dealer. I've never owned a Nissan/Infiniti vehicle. Some of the few question I have for you guys:
1. Is this a good price?
2. Should I have any worry purchasing this car with 72,000? I don't want to turn around and start replacing stuff.
3. What are your guys thoughts on the reliability of this car? Will it make it to 100k or 150k miles?

It depends on how they have take care of the car our cars with basic maintenance like changing your oil and things like that should run well up past 100k, VQ are really reliable and they have been for years, you'll probably need like brakes and stuff if they never been changed but for the price wise go ahead and check kbb and see if it's reasonable

 

i've been researching pricing based on miles and trim levels. i'd say they better offer you maybe 18k after taxes/title/fees. there are plenty of sedans out there, and automatic/non-sport are even more abundant. the fact that it has none of the optional packages means that resale value will probably be much lower in the future - not that you sound like you'll sell the car in a year, but that's just another point to haggle over price. depending on the condition, i'd say shoot for 17-18k after taxes and fees. after all, it is a 4 year old car with an average of 18k miles per year (that's heavily driven in my book).

 

That's alot of miles for a 4 year old car. My '12 just rolled over 20K the other day. Was it a fleet vehicle? See if you can pull up a carfax or autocheck on it. If done at the dealer, maintenance typically shows up on a carfax report.

Are there other options available with lower miles at a marginally higher price? You should still be able to get an extended warranty if you want ( up to 4 years of coverage from date of purchase).

 

So yep, I just looked at the Carfax and it was a rental! That could be the reason why it has racked up so many miles!

 

I wouldn't buy a rental, pass.

 

A rental G37...I wonder who rents those. I don't recall ever seeing them at avis or other rental places..

 

Lots of places rent premium cars, a lot of the rental places here have mid level BMW and Cadillacs to rent as well. Couple Mercedes cars as well. If all the maintenance was up to date I wouldn't have any issues buying a rental.

 

Not sure where you are located, but if it were me and I decided not to buy a CPO used, I would take my time and buy an unmolested car from a private seller. You will know the right seller when you meet him/her. Here is one I found close to me...

This person is excited about the Bose stereo, so I can pretty much assure you that the car has never been dropped, raced, mufflers cut off, manual shifted to the extreme, all maint. done by the dealer ahead of schedule, garage kept, etc. This one is a Sport model as well, so you get alot more goodies (too many to list, but there are other threads on the topic). In addition, it's in San Diego, so climate abuse is almost zero. Maybe fly out and drive the car home?

To be honest, this one seems a little too good to be true. I do see it has been in a couple of accidents. Fender benders count as accidents, so you would need to do some diligence prior.

When I was in my 20s, I bought almost all of my used cars this way and had alot of success doing so. You just have to be patient.

 

Can't imagine ever buying a rental vehicle. Just too much abuse and uncertainty.

@Epiphany Must be location. I've seen some caddy's and lincolns, but never infiniti. I recall a maxima being about as premium as it got.

 

I bought my G37x 2012 two month ago for $19200 with 44k miles and my car has navigation.

 

Think about the way you would treat a rental car, then multiply that by the 100s of people that would have rented it over the course of that many miles... And rental companies are not that diligent on maintenance.
I would NEVER buy a rental.

 

I'll sell you my 2011 G37 sedan, fully loaded, Navigation, aftermarket Premium JL Audio, subs, etc. It has about 72K miles as well. I used it mostly for work, and now it's just sitting in my drive way. I would like to sell it to pay off some student debt, otherwise I'd never let it go. I have made it resemble a batmobile though, just to let you know. I'd sell it for $17,500 including everything (taxes, fees, driving it up to you, etc).
