I'm looking for some advice in regards to buying a 2012 g37x. My local Infiniti dealership has quite a few for sale, some are certified and others are not. There are also a lot of local used car dealerships that are selling similar cars, including mileage, extras, ect.

I feel like going with a certified car is a good idea: you get the assurance of a 6 year / 100k mile warranty for the drive train and a few other things. But, obviously, this comes at a premium. After researching this car for countless hours, it doesn't seem like a 2012 will have many, if any, issues down the road. I understand it all depends on how you drive it, the miles a year, regular maintenance, ect. I am just wondering if anyone has bought this car through a dealership other than Infiniti and had good luck.

Also, I saw a few posts about buying a used car that still has the manufacturers warranty and adding a "wrap" or elite coverage from that Infiniti dealership in Scottsdale. How would I go about doing this? Is this warranty worth it? Are most things that go wrong with a g37x doable at a local auto body? I will be doing my own oil changes, brakes, and stuff like that.

I would concentrate on getting the best (lowest) price on a car. You will then be able to purchase an extended warranty (Scottsdale is the best) depending on the mileage. Price of warranty will depend on the options you feel comfortable with. They will email you a price sheet. Do a search here for the link. Keep in mind you will have to pay for a full inspection at dealer before they will activate the warranty.

 

I'm on my second G both purchased new from the same dealer.
I currently have 63k miles on my 2012 G37S and just had the the 17th oil change completed on it. I did 48 out of 53 oil changes on my previous 06 G35 6 speed until I traded it in at 171796 miles.
I've gotten lazy and just let the dealer do my oil changes. They wash and vacuum my G and it is returned to me much cleaner that when I dropped it off.
I just change air filters every 10k miles and replace the cabin filter once a year.
I've had zero problems during my 63k miles.

My advice is to go meet the service manager at your local Infiniti dealer and find out who is the most highly trained and experienced technician working there.
That is the individual that you want to inspect your choice of a used vehicle and to provide you a complete service record of that vehicle.
You might be paying a little more by purchasing from an Infiniti dealer but you have a better chance of purchasing a trouble free vehicle that has a history of all services that were performed by that dealer.

Don't waste your money on a CPO. Your chances of getting a good vs. bad car depends on the person inspecting the car, and also the shoddiness of the dealership. It's really just the same as buying a used car with a stamp of approval on it, of which doesn't mean jack **** if they half-assed it. You also have to go through the whole ordeal with the salesperson and trying every way possible to pull every cent out of your pocket. Epic waste of time and money if you ask me. My G is a CPO and I can say with absolute certainty, I will not buy a CPO ever again.

 

I was able to buy a nice Pre-Owned (1 owner) 2011 G37S with only 31K miles from an Infiniti dealer for $22K. At the time it was only 4 days out of CPO. I went ahead and bought a 5year/60K elite warranty with the car. I bought the car in Sep and no problems since.

 

I do agree with r0cketm0nkey the quality of the work & inspection is dependent on the person and shop.
But I was wandering isn't the extended warranty provided by a CPO backed by the manufacturer, Infinity in this case and therefor valid at any Infinity dealer in the country?
