[Help] What to look for when purchasing a used G37s.
Hey myG37 members,
I'm in the market for a used 2011-2013 g37s coupe. I'm wondering what damages I should really keep an eye out for when searching for a used g37. I was at a dealership today and saw minor rim scrapes, minor paint chips, and little dirt on the ceiling near the visor area. The car was a 2013 model with 21k miles on it. Is this expected? Maybe I'm just nitpicking the smallest details. Should I be on the lookout for a particular sound the engine SHOULDN'T be making? Mirrors? Doors? Stereo? How much SHOULD I pay? Thanks for any responses!

What you should do is hire a professional who evaluates used cars for a living. Find someone who specializes in pre-purchase inspections and pay them to check everything on the car you are looking to buy. It is well worth the money. There are a number of stories on this forum and elsewhere of people who think they know what to look for and end up buying used cars (even CPO ones) that have hidden or undiscovered damage that they don't find out about until it's too late.
As far as cosmetic issues, only you know what you'll be satisfied or unsatisfied with, nobody can tell you how much wear is acceptable to you. User service like Edmunds or KBB or TrueCar or similar to determine what price is fair.
Good luck.

-dents, scratches, ugly touch up paints.
- look at panel to panel continuity. Run your fingers along the edges of panel amd see if there is a big missaligned area.
- Brakes (thin pads, pulsating when pedal is depress during the test drive.
- check all exterior lights if working. Dont forget to check brake lights.
engine: noisy startup sometimes is normal due to the car has been sitting in a lot for a long time. After driving it for a mile or two, turn it off and restart again. If it is still noisy and has weird sound. Run!
- Bring a flashlighr and check for Oil damp area on camshaft seals, manifold , timing chain cover.
- during the test drive listen for squeeky noise on the dash , windows etc. now turn the AC on and listen to the AC compressor if it makes a noisy sound on idle.
- Turn steering wheel both end to end and it should not produce squeeky noise.
