2012 Lease
2012 Lease
Current lease expires early next year. When I learned Infiniti will not lower the buyout price due to discontinued model, I was upset. No way I was going to pay a premium compared to the similar used cars on the lot.
Over time I have leaned towards buying my G. I know my car inside & out, have a chin lip & many other cool addons learned from this site.
Details: 2012 G37s sedan AT 18,500 miles, always garaged. I fell in love with Malbec & don't expect to find one used in this good condition. My residual is 25k. Is that the price they will be asking for (+ tax)?
Not a big fan of Q50. Maybe in a few years I may switch. Due to my low miles I figure I will be gaining equity in the car if I buy it. Am I out of line here or missing any other facts?

You should have negotiated the purchase price instead of leasing.
I did.
Mine is fully paid for and I am puting $$$ aside towards my next one in a few years.
A lease always costs more in the end and you'll be paying a monthly charge forever if you lease again.

A contract is a contract that you signed.

Thanks for the reply.
I am in a similar situation- 2012 Malbec G37S, auto, nav. I have about 23k miles on mine. Buyout is $25.8. Leaning toward buying it now (probably change my mind 10x in the next 3 mos). I cannot find an S with these miles for this price or better.
And the fact that the dealer just put a new battery in it and a new front hub/bearing (drivers side) under warranty makes me feel a bit better. AND - getting a new set of tires on the rear (PSS) mostly under the treadwear warranty makes me want to keep it a bit more.
AND - the Q50 isn't pulling me in...nor is anything else.
We will see....
Good Luck!

Your logic is sound but flawed in this case. When you purchased your G did you know they would completely discontinue the model? The G37 depreciation has accelerated upon the news. If only looking at finances, I could turn in my G & pick up a used one still under warranty for about 4-5k less. If you tried to sell yours or trade it in you would see what I mean.
Thanks for the reply.

I traded in my 06 G35 6 speed at 171796 miles rather then spend a few thousand on tires, brakes, headlight ballast, and a leaking differential seal.
Still had the original clutch, alternator, starter but did not want spend the money and risk a round trip to Florida with the possibility of a breakdown and a ruined vacation.
My 2012 G37S came with all new parts and a full warranty.
I don't care about depreciation or trade in value.
When I decide I want a new car I'll just shop around get a good price and purchase it for cash.
BTW today December 31st is one of the best days of the year to purchase a new vehicle. The second best day is 12/24. I purchased my previous 06 G35 on 12/31/05 and got a fantastic deal.

Forgetting the residual, go back and look at the original sales contract:
Did you make a good deal on the original purchase price?
Then residual doesn't matter, as your lease payments were probably lower than traditional financing!!
UPDATE:
I decided to purchase my 2012 G37s. Brought it in with 20k miles after 39 month lease. While the residual was higher than I wanted, they did give me 1.9% financing. The only part that made me uncomfortable was the $300 lease termination fee plus they charged me $200 for a mandatory full inspection to declare my car is safe to drive. All I got was a car wash & a hand shake. Well at least it's mine now & I just ordered LEDs.

I love mine!

I have a few more miles than you.
