SWM seeks G37 6MT Sedan

Hello,

I am having a lot of trouble finding the right car. I had started out looking at and driving several 07-08 G35s and loving them, especially the G35xS that I just missed out on.

Yesterday, I stopped by a local dealer and test drove a G37 6MT, and oh my god, did I love it. It was night and day more fun to drive. The problem was that I got a bad vibe from the dealership, and the car just wasn't in that great of shape.

When I popped the hood, there was moisture all over the engine bay. All of the Gs I've looked at so far, including one with 143k miles, were nearly spotless under the hood.

There was a pretty bad rattle coming from somewhere along the roof, just behind my head.

The worst part of it was when starting off in 1st gear, I could hear what I think was valves rattling. The thing still ran like a friggin beast, but I can only imagine what it will take to get the rattling fixed.

If I could get them to go WAY down on the price (listed at $16k), do you think it would be worth the risk, in light of what I've said above?

Pay for a third party inspection. That's the only to be sure in a situation like this and make an informed decision. You will get a bunch of different opinions here, but none of us can look at thoroughly or drive the car online. I do commend you for your questioning attitude before purchasing. There have been a lot of threads lately where people state similar concerns, but instead of looking to buy the car, they decided to buy first and ask questions later.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Thanks, Ryne.

I'm trying to be careful and not rush in, but what's blowing my mind is how few of these I see for sale.

Were there very few of these made, or is it that there are very few people selling?
