dealer lying or no?

Is there anyone here that can check VIN#/carfax for a toyota rav4?
i went to trade in my leased toyota rav4 and the dealer told me that when they checked my vin/carfax, there was a accident on this car. I got this car NEW when i leased it and never had any accidents.. is he lying or something??

Did you EVER make a police report for ANYTHING that had to do with your car? Ding in a parking lot, chip in the windshield, etc. ???

These will come up as accidents and KILL the trade in value. I went through LOTS of drama on my trade-in. Several weeks of phone calls and dealing with CARFAX directly. Didn't really get me anywhere and had to take the loss of $$ on trade in. All from the tiniest door ding that was "paintless" dent repaired for $50. "Accident" because I made a police report because the car that did it was still parked next to me.

i was hit once, while I was waiting at a red light, damage was minor just couple of scratches and one dent about the size of a quarter but we never filed a police report.
other than that, nothing..

Did he show you what he was talking about on the carfax? Maybe he is just trying to get out of an offer. Thats what a dealer did to me once, made an offer, realized the clutch was going out and rather than say it. Started telling me the car was a salvage title, when I got the car with 5 miles new.
How the VIN's didnt match up, but they did, etc...
I just took my business elsewhere.

Carfax can say anything. There is no system of checks and balances for them. It's no different than asking me about your car. It could easily say your car has a salvaged title. Any dealer interested in doing business with you will contact the title holder, or DMV and find out. Dealer who doesn't care will take carfax at its word.

Ask the dealer to show you the carfax report and point out the entries he finds questionable...
