How was your delivery/pickup experience for new G37. What should I expect?

The 2008 G37 I am purchasing is still in plastic basically. The paint looks good but the car still needs cleaned (it's a little dusty).

On delivery, should I expect:

1_no haze/fine swirls/or light scratches in the paint
2_latest NAV software loaded (it is an 08 mfg in 02/09)

Is it unreasonable to expect no scratches in the paint at p/u and to request the NAV update (I think it's 07-08 on the car and I read there's a Jan update). I have read the NAV software update costs to upgrade but isn't this something that should be updated as part of the prep process?

Thanks.

You're basically asking them to detail the car before delivery to you, which seems perfectly reasonable to me. Updating the software to the latest rev is a reasonable expectation as well, IMO.

Basically, the sale isn't done until you drive it off the lot, so that's the right time to get these things done.

they SHOULD update the nav software for you... i think it costs quite a bit to update it yourself... a few hundred maybe? for real? just for an updated map? rofl... right.

even if it's still under plastic, make sure it's detailed because swirl makes suck!

It's not going to be perfect, just know that. Detailed will STILL have its marks. Just know that you're purchasing an item that will be flawed in some way - just accept it. As long as it's not so bad, it should be ok.

A small swirl here and there is ok, a gouge or a visible scratch is not.

A few things

I would demand the nav software update, that's a no-brainer.

Also:
1. Pair your bluetooth phone, add a phonebook entry with a voice tag and see what you have to do to get it to actually dial that number. You might be surprised what it takes. Might be faster to keep quarters on hand and stop for a pay phone.
2. Sit on the leather seats for a while and see how bad the bubbles you get are...
3. Might want to connect your iPod and see if you're randomly disconnects like so many do
4. If you're planning to listen to music off the CF card, you may want to understand how the UI for it works (it's messed up)

Bottom line - know what you're getting in to BEFORE you drive away.

My car was clean and all, but I was very mad that it was driven 150 miles from another dealer to get it to me. If I knew they were getting it from that far away I would have insisted on it coming on a flat bed....

If the dealer made close to nothing, they won't flatbed it for you. Let's say you paid $200 over invoice, if they flatbed it, they make nothing. There is no reason for them to even do the transaction for you.

If they have the car in stock, yes, they can take a loss on it to move inventory out. But if the car isn't in stock, they have no reason to get a car for you unless they're making something on it.

Dealer should've definitely told you ahead of time that they'd have to get it & therefore it would have some real miles on it. At our place, we tell customers ahead of time & they sign acknowledging the car will have roughly XXX KM on it (I'm a sales & leasing consultant for Honda in Toronto, Canada).

If they told me I would have paid for them to flat bed it, which still would have bothered me because I have trucks that are more then capable of towing it .... I doubt they took it easy on those 150 miles

Just like Joey_V said, you will have swirls, don't expect perfection from a dealer detail job, but no scratches if you do let them know. They will go over the whole system and will show you where evertyhing is located in the engine compartment, etc.....BTW enjoy your new ride.

How is $200 over invoice not making any money. They make $2500 if you pay invoice...???

You don't pay for flatbed if they make money.

I'm waiting for my 09 g37 coupe to arrive. I always thought that the car is in the best looking condition while it's still in plastic. I know it will probably be dirty and all but at least no scratches from the dealers trying to wash it...am I wrong? I told my dealer to leave it in the plastic and not to wash it cause I'm afraid of them scratching it up and leaving swirls. Should I ask them to detail it as well before I pick it up????
