I think idiot is a requirement for salesman, your best bet is to use it to your advantage. I was able to get the price I wanted by convincing my salesman to give me free oil changes until it got down to the price that I wanted.

Uh oh, some people in here might get mad at me. Let's just say, some people slip through without fulfilling the idiot requirement, and those are the people that come to this website.

It always amazes me. I mean, the sales guy's full time job is to know everything about like 5 cars?? Sure, you should know some stuff about the competition, but at least have your own cars down. Seems like in almost all cases these days the customer goes in more informed than the sales guy. I have this same problem when I go watch shopping. Granted there, the sales guy might have 100+ watches to know about, so I'll cut him at leat a little slack. Even though I'm not likely to see my sales guy much after the sale, I still like to know that he has a clue what he's talking about, so I'll ask him what seem like simple questions. Often they have no clue to the answer.

lol.. this is very true... I had a salesman apologize one time for not knowing the answers to practically any of my questions when i bought my Titan last year.. after apologizing he wanted to know if he could ask me a few questions about the truck since I knew so much.. lol.. I thought it was hillarious and I pretty much educated him on the truck that he sells..

I was at the Audi dealer looking at A5's and there was a guy sitting in the office asking one of the guys that worked there what the A5's were going for. The guy that worked there wasn't too quick to answer, so I jumped in with an answer. The Audi guy admitted that often customers know more than them.

some dude at a dealership I went to today said the 08 and 09 Gs were the same. I was like what about the 7AT in the 09 compared to 5AT in the 08 -- that shut him up.

Go to Sean Kass at Infiniti of Ann Arbor, tell him Patrick sent you. He will kill all the other prices 100%.

From my experience 90% of salesmen are clowns. Seriously, most of them don't know jack. In my profession, I would be fired on the spot by my employer for the equivalent of what those clowns say and do (including a couple on here ... you know who you are).

Total and thorough incompetence on display ...
