If the buying process were more transparent everyone would be better off.

I'd be willing to pay a $500 or $1000 "no negotiation" fee (depending on the price of the car to begin with) if the dealer would just give me the price and rates that met his profit requirement otherwise.

The "smoke and mirrors" aspect of the car buying process is pretty annoying. In my opinion, it leads to the large gaps between the dealer (e.g., dave ism) and the buyer (e.g., high mike).

Wouldn't it be great? A "fast track" to car buying where you don't feel like it is in your benefit to negotiate for hours (or days). Who has time for that?

I'm currently interested in a vehicle. The dealer gave me her "best price" so I told her I'd sleep on it. Without any prompting from me she started negotiating (e.g., "we can come up $700 on your trade"). I understand dealers need to make a profit, but the multi-day go-around to get the best price? No thanks.

This is precisely why this "game" if you will exists. If I gave you planet earth's best and rock bottom deal, you'd still walk away and "sleep on it" in the end anyway. Even in my department where we work on full disclosure, I hear this every day and people end up either cross shopping your quote somewhere else, buy a completely different vehicle because they're pissed that they can't get their price (like HighMike, it's just a number that you've got stuck on and will scour everywhere until you find it), or just be taken off the market.

If I was just going to spit out $1,000 under invoice just to make your purchase simple and easy and everyone else was $500 over, you'd figure that was too easy and something doesn't sound right and therefore shop and compare and keep searching for someone else to give you that same deal or even better perhaps. Realize within yourself that enough is enough at some point and even if that were possible, you'd still want to haggle on the payment like dealers can negotiate with federal and state governments with taxes and/or the bank with interest rates.

I make my deals with total disclosure so everyone knows just what's going on and there's no "tricks up the sleeve" in the process. My CSI is amongst the highest in the district for this reason. Everyone gets a great deal and is comfortable throught their time here with me in the vehicle of their dreams. Think about all this when you are engaged in working out a deal with your local dealership and you'll see for yourself.

But, I really did just need to sleep on it. Buying a car isn't like buying a new pair of jeans.

Don't assume that all buyers are cross shopping.

I didn't - and bought from the dealer today.

Dave, not all buyers are trying to jerk you around.

Don't misunderstand; I'm not saying that all consumers jerk around. Sure, there are some that intentionally jerk around in addition some salesman jerk around too. That's any business. My "tone" here in this thread might sound a little strong, but I'm really pretty cool if you had the opportunity to speak with me. Congrats on your purchase and it's refreshing to hear that you simply needed a time-out before making the commitment. Many hunt and fish around and many times talk themselves out of the purchase because they're stuck on the rediculous.

What would you sell a G37s for with an MSRP of $44,000?

Tax is only $300 for me in SC.

Wow, that's hawt!! I'm moving to SC!! Just kidding, but even with a great deal from me, you'd still have shipping from Los Angeles to SC to contend with. Honestly, unless your local dealer wasn't flexible enough to make it worth your while, I might still end up higher in the end simply due to the freight alone.

BTW, I won't discuss payments, etc. on a public board. If you're sincere, you're welcome to call.

I doubt I'd buy from you I was just curious as to how much off MSRP dealers are willing to go, and what's considered a "good deal".

I'm at the nuke plant now. I think a call to CA might raise some eyebrows.

I never understood why some put themselves & everyone around them through so much grief over a few bucks a month on a car.

Sounds like the original poster should shop for a Saturn.

You never DEAL DOWN from MRSP. You start with below invoice and work up depending on the market and your area.

I'm also not buying from him either. I was just curious as to what he considers a good deal.

Sounds as if you'll have a hard time buying a car with this attitude. Best of luck to you with whatever you end up purchasing.

Dave your so full of ****. Even carbuying tips suggest to deal up from invoice. You're encouraging customers to speak in terms of MRSP because thats HOW YOU MAKE MORE PROFIT.

You seem to think the CUSTOMER has to cater to the SALEMAN.

Get a ****ing clue, infiniti is NOT bentley. The g37 is entry level luxury, NOT the grandeur luxury vehicle you make it to be.

Infiniti isnt even on par with BMW.

I don't have to use curse words on the internet to make a point. If you truly feel that this product isn't for you, guess what, don't buy it. Whatever you wish to classify the Infiniti brand is your opinion and you're welcome to it. If you think and feel I'm full of ****, I appreciate your feedback however I will still continue to sell my product to those that feel that it is worthy of their money, whether it's MSRP or below invoice. Again Mike, I wish you the best of luck in your future automotive purchase.

Keep giving terrible car-buying advice to your customers. Pays the bills right?

The product is entry level luxury hence affordable. Bentley dealer seems to be your interpretation. Or maybe you simply don't make enough to purchase the car you sell...
