The bmw will make a better track car right from the gitgo so if that is really important then...

Thanks, we weren't sure about aftermarket clutch options. In regards to the BMW, I had a rental 328 for a month and it was nice, but nothing impressive. My g/f said the inside was the same as her friend's '80 something BMW. Hahaha. I know the BMW is better for the track, but that is more of a weekend thing for me.

Yeah that was the problem I had. I kept letting it out too fast. Thanks again on the suggestion of the 5AT, but i'm really set on a manual car.

Yeah, rev matching on down shifts is a blast. dropp two gears and tlisten to that thing sing!!! Sounds like you are at laguna seca

Dude get the 6mt...Its my first 6mt car and I only had about 300-500 random miles logged in on MT's before it. At first the clutch seemed heavy and abrupt but now it's real easy. It takes a lil more oomph to press down than a Honda Civic clutch, yes, but it's a pretty aggressive and strong gearbox the 6mt in a G and its been vastly improved from the previous generation G Coupes. I guarantee it just has a learning curve that's all. I am almost at 3k miles now and it is a TON easier than it was from my first test drive...It's getting very close to near perfect now....Downshifts are getting more seamless and upshifts I could still use a lil work on the 1-2 shift but minus that it's smooth. Also chilibowl (6mt guru on this forum) told me about how the clutch brakes in and continues getting smoother even after motor break in. He said his clutch was at its smoothest at 7-8k so it just takes a lil time.

i love my 6 speed. missed it in the cadi but now im back. i wouldn't have it any other way. im 26 so i don't need the luxury of an auto. Traffic who cares, its about hte the open roads. you'll learn the car quickly if not let your passengers bounce their heads on the dash who cares, in the end its for your enjoyment.

solo your car is auto.....???? WTF. Clutch is a bit soft and burns a little to easily... But that is coming from an STI with an ACT 6 puck

Since you're set on the stick shift, there's no need to convince you of that. I wouldn't worry about learning the clutch that much as I had to go through the same thing. At first it could be kind of frustrating whenever you make a mistake but you'll learn quickly and like someone mentioned, you're gonna have a BLASST driving the 6MT, especially when down shifting.

That is true the AT in the G offers alot more then the AT that is in the mustang.

You should buy the G in manual, since that's what you like. You'll get used to it pretty quickly. I drive a lot of different vehicles from my family members and friends. They're a different mix of autos and manuals. You'll get used to it quickly. I would say 1 day of full driving, not just on a highway either, and you'll get used to it!!! I do agree that european cars can be more troublesome than japanese cars. I've owned 2 Hondas, 1 VW, 1 Audi, and 1 Benz. Now I've got the G. I will always love the looks of a european car. I don't know what it is. To me they always have that aggressive look that I must like, and when you tune and mod them they look ridiculous sick!! I think Nissans/Infinitis look nice too, but they don't look like tuned M6's, M3's, or even a 330. I do lean towards the BMW's. However, I'm not brand loyal when it comes to shelling out my own money. I go for whoever will give me the deal I'm looking for. I'm not trying to roll Phat and not be able to do anything else!!! Had a 335 coupe been the same price as my G or up to $2000 more I would have gotten the 335 because I like the way it looks and still do. However, for the price they're going for I personally don't think the BMW is worth it. Possibly the new A5, but I still feel the best bang for the buck is the G!!! And Yes, I do love my G, but I'll always get jealous when I see a new M3 or a new 911 GT2 roll by. If you do end up with the G, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!!

agree, buy the 6mt. i had limited experience with driving a stick. drove my uncle's s2k one time and somehow i thought it was harder then driving the 37. i thought the 37 would be a pita but it came out fairly easy when my dad told me about that engagement point in the clutch. made it wayyyyy easier.

Get the "G"!! I was also undecided between a couple other choices and I opted for the the G37S 6MT and haven't looked back. For the record, I was looking at the 335i and the Lexus is350. Both very nice vehicles and in some respects better than the G37 but when viewed in its entirety, I found the G37S package with the options and price I got to be the better bang for the buck than either the Beemer or Lexus. The 4-wheel active steering package, coupled with the 6-speed manual gearbox, low profile tires and sport suspension make for an incredibly handling little "rice rocket". Not to mention, it's gorgeous! I've driven many manual transmissions over the years and I will admit, I did find the clutch in the G37 a bit squirrelly at first but I got used to it pretty quick. The short throw shifter is very sweet! I'm 6' tall and head room and leg room are not an issue. Back seat legroom...now that may be another issue. You don't buy a coupe if you want a back seat anyway.

not entirely true....for moderate trip of under 3 hours - the back seat on the 335, accord coupe, altime coupe, etc. are all somewhat functional for occasional use. Now with the G, unless you were housing midgets - the G's back seat is only good for under 45 minute drives I'd say. And even that with persons under 5'9" and under 200 lbs. The G's back seat is a joke Ive only put my little brother in there once, my girl in there, and my lil sister once....3x use total...I just like the styling on a 2+2 car. For the most part the car is a 2 seater with a back seat that I can throw my stuff in if I need to haha.

THe 6MT in this car certainly took some getting used to coming from predominantly Honda trannys in the past. But now that I've gotten used to it the car is just as easy to drive as any other I've ever had. The gearshifter is not as rifle-bolt precise as an S2000's but it is by no means bad. The clutch has a fairly strong spring that "kicks back" right at engagement which took some getting used to but its fine now.....
