N8's BLTN Build Thread

BLTN? Bolt on?❎ Bulletin?❎ Better Late Than Never!✅

This will be a unique build thread (if it works). I have already had the car for 8+ years so I am starting late. I will slowly update this thread to catch up to today.

I hope you'll enjoy this trip back in time as much as I will.

I purchased a 2012 G37S today! My previous car, BMW E46, was tired and had over 210,000 miles.

I have always liked the Gs (well maybe not the prev gen G35 sedans with their non-sporty rear ends). I didn't realize how hard it would be to find a sedan in a manual! I think I spent 2-3 months looking and only found 3 in the country. The closest was in Tennessee. I live in NC. It wasn't really the color I wanted, but I could live with it. Especially knowing how hard they are to find.

I worked with the dealer, got the car independently checked out without me having to go there. Agreed on a price, and before anyone could do a rug-pull, I was in a one-way rental driving to TN.

$$ PURCHASED $$

Small update. I have done a few minor things in the first 2 months of owning the car.
  • Window tint.
  • R2C Black Hex drop in filters.
  • Ordered a custom sub box and installed it.
  • Installed the amp / subs from my BMW.
  • Mounted the amp on the passengers side trunk wall.
This is what came out of my BMW. I think it is funny I have Infinity subs. I can hear Xzibit saying "Yo! I heard you like Infiniti, so we put Infinity in your Infiniti."

I had to make the holes larger on the custom sub box. Came out looking great!

You bought it used and "bone stock" at 4 years old... so, no carryover warranty, huh?

How many miles were on it, and why did you get a G Sedan with a 6MT?

No warranty. It had 75,420 miles. This is my typical car buying MO... buy a car ~4 years old with ~65k miles, and keep it until it has well over 200k miles.

Easy, 6MT because 6MT! Ha! I have only owned 2 automatics (the E46 being one) and wanted to go back to a stick while they exist. Sedan because I have 3 kids ....and, this is polarizing, but I think the sedans look better than the coupes.

Big things are in the works for the G!

I am finishing up some engine bay bling. This is the project I started last year. Finally getting it finished! I should have that done by the end of Oct.

Then by the end of the year, the car will change dramatically! Will keep this part close to the vest... for now.

In the meantime, I updated this thread with more history. More to come!
