Crusher103 starts a thread about some blue-ish G37

About time i start one of these. I'll start with the numbers, this is bone stock, no modification what so ever.

2008 6spd G37S coupe, Slate Blue.
275whp
237wtq

3536lbs w/1/2 tank

Dyno'd and weighed at Nisformance here in NC.

The car itself is in decent condition. Mechanically sound. The last owner maintained it well, however the person before was probably some guy who daddy's money bought the car for him/her. And it some areas you can tell. He/She did not own the car very long just 2 years then moved on and it has lived pretty peacefully here in NC since 2010. Some areas of issue that i have noticed is the trunk of the car doesn't quite line up with the body and the trunk has some dings and rough paint. Will likely have to be replaced to get it fix. Passes the 5 foot test. The drip molding on the roof of the car needs to be replaced it seems to be coming up. The passenger headlight has some haze in it. There is a ding in the driver's door and hood. On the interior there is a scratch in the dashboard right above the info screen and typical wear on some of the places where hands usually are, steering wheel/door handles etc. Nothing out of the ordinary. However it is a 9 year old car so i was not expecting it to be perfect. Currently has 90k on it. i have put almost 3k on it in the past 3 weeks really driving it seeing if i can find any mechanical issues. And none have really come up. Only issue i do have is a idle dip at stop lights and sometimes the car dies right when you start it. Have to give it some gas. I'm almost certain that is a dirty and/or bad throttle body issue.

Plans for it are basic bolt ons, just keeping it simple its my DD. With that in mind overall i want to raise the hp by 45 and the torque by 20 numbers. A lot of my modification is going to focus on the way the car handles and its overall grip and composure. If you read my intro thread i was talking about how the chassis looses its composure over bumps and dips in the road. That needs to change. i don't have a huge budget so no $2,000 coilovers or what have you.

So first thing on my list is the cats. I am a Nissan guy so i know all about oil consumption in the VQ motor and the source of the problem is cheap catalytic converters that break up get sucked back into the engine then those particles proceed to tear up the rings and piston walls. This car does not consume any oil and i would like to keep in that way. On the dyno, no blue smoke what so ever. Which is what i was watching. next is the wheels. I am sure i have replica factory wheels and they are also curbed and beat to all hell. I am not spending a massive amount of money on wheels likely around $1500. But it will also give me an opportunity to stick a much wider wheel on the back and run some proper rubber. That should be able to solve the traction issue i was talking about. I will throw some coilovers or something to lower the car on at the same time.

Everything else will come with time. I especially have a bone to pick with the intake and throttle body prices for this engine, why is it so expensive lol

With that said it begins.

Well well well. so i am a little over a year into ownership of the G37 so updates as of Oct. 21st 2018. I dont talk on here as much as i should but **** gets done so as of right now this is where the mod list stands:

"Arts and Crafts" intakes
Non resonated Test pipes
Aftermarket Y-pipe
370Z nismo muffler
"HKS" Grounding kit
Tien Basis CO's
Voodoo13 high clearance Camber arms
Kinetix A Arms
Konig Ampliform 19x9.5+23 & 19x10.5+23

Most important part of this is NUMBAHS, INTERWEBS!

Still untuned but there are a few tuned cars posting numbers similar to mine so i guess what i am doing is working. Baseline was 275whp for this car. So intakes, test pipe, y-pipe and muffler made for 30whp peak gain. the most interesting thing will be to see how big of a difference under the curve a tune would make.

Now as for more important issues pertaining to how the car looks:

For you sharp people Fontana dam, yes i was at Tail of the Dragon. had a blast, G37 performed well until we got to really tight stuff then it didn't like it. also COs were too soft for how aggressive i drove the car. Most importantly not ONE hiccup in the cars performance, brakes, engine, cooling transmission nothing. I'm running Stop tech pads on Centric Cryo treated rotors, all round. The brakes when i really got them hot would pulsate a little but they have not warped and never faded.

Well i wish i would not have to do this but the end has come for this car. A lady in a minivan decided it would be a good idea to make a left turn with out looking and here were the results. 6/11/2020 R.I.P

I'm hoping i can dyno the car often. Not every mod of course but at least throw on a few mods dyno it and get it weighed. Hopefully i'll have the time and money but one fo the interesting things was after i dyno'd the car i started doing some maintenance to it. It got a little faster after some fluids had been changed so next item is the spark plugs maybe a few more hps are lurking in them lol.

Some of you were asking in my intro thread about the I30 you can see the sleeper in the background of some of those pics just sleeping. I'm swapping a compressor wheel in it. Old one got damaged, so moAr b00st incoming. Pics:

OK so which car is confusingly out of place in this picture lol.

Some of the most fun about this car is people looking at it wondering what the hell it is doing and why its there. The employees of the Road Scholars where i was on that day were at first asking me to move however one of the guys noticed the intercooler then the once i told them what was done to it they told me to just move over one park space to get all the GTRs together instead of move it to the back. I thought that was funny. Also on the day that picture was taken that ugly thing surprised a decently modded EvoX. Caught him sleeping. Owner was a cool guy though ended up chatting with him later in the day.

lol not its not mine, I wish it was clean as hell. It was a little underpowered being a non turbo model and it ended up overheating. But through some curves it was fast. I was able to keep up with it because of the power advantage that i had. But the G37 is a big car. here is a shot of our cars together and its a sizeable bastard. And Yes that white S2000 is insanely fast, those parts are not just for show.

that thing was coming together nicely. What were your tire specs if you don't mind me asking?

In most of the pictures it was 245/40/19 and 275/35/19. I eventually moved to 255/35/19 upfront i think those looked a little better. I liked it, the car was planted.

I never did just the dyno that i posted was the last thing. I wanted to see the difference i was going to have with the headers and the 3.5" exhaust i had untuned then what it would make tuned. i was only 3 days away from that.

I don't think i have any pictures of in the intakes but my friend gave them that name after i decided to make my own. I just could not stomach paying $600-700 for intakes. I bought an intercooler piping kit some ebay short rams, 2 velocity stacks, 2 AFe filters, and started cutting stuff up eventually got it to fit together. They were 3" intake until the maf tube. All in all i ended up spending $400 so i really didn't save much on intakes, expensive *** car lol.

Got you, I interpreted arts and crafts as more plastic than anything. I remember a company called Iceman intakes back in the day that used to make hard plastic intake tubes.
I wonder why no companies have tried this route.
