I assume your latest pictures are with the Stance coils installed? How do they ride?

Are your swift springs longer than the standard springs? Why 13/8k, that's the same as the stance's default spring rate isn't it? Is there any room to go higher than you have it set?

Sorry for the questions, I got a set of my own but I'm a nervous nelly about dropping too much for street use or making it too harsh.

No, the car was just on the AWD Swift Springs on the stock suspension in those pictures. Never had a chance to install the Stance coilovers because the car was wrecked in an accident last week. Stance themselves recommended the 13/8k Swift spring rates, best combo for handling/comfort on the AWD Gs.

I'll be getting a 6MT Sedan soon though, may get another set of Stance coils.

Appreciate it. I can't justify paying more for another car (335i, S4), the G was paid off and I don't need another car payment.

Jesus Christ man. Did they even hit their brakes?? That's a damn shame given all you've done. I'd be heart broken. Glad to hear you're ok man.

Wowza. Make sure to negotiate HARD with the insurance company when it comes to covering your aftermarket parts too. Sounds like you're ok for the most part? Sucks after putting all that work into the car. I absolutely fear being rear ended, especially living in a major metropolitan area with a lot of bad drivers.

It doesn't seem like they slowed down, just plowed through me.

But my next G will be better than this, because 6MT and I've learned so much over the past year and a half. I'm done with the "experimenting" phase, and I really have a solid plan for my next build.

My insurance told me that my aftermarket parts are covered, as long as I provide invoices/receipts as proof of purchase.

Damn. Sorry to hear about your accident man that damage looks rough, glad you're ok. The 6mt on the horizon is definitely a silver lining.

Hey Z... thinking about starting over with a 6MT, would you be interested in some priority opinions based on hindsight?
  • swaybars
  • rjm pedal
  • short shifter
  • coilovers
  • tires
  • cats
  • catback
  • tower brace
  • intake

If all goes well next month, I very likely would put 4.083 gears at or near the top of that list. Similarly, sometime next year, I very likely would put a dyno tune near the top.

Anyway, just thinking out loud.

Haven't seen the info on this. (Plus I have an autotragic) What is the benefit over the factory gearing?

Basic mechanical engineering. If your differential gearing is such that you increase the rotation to the wheels, you accelerate faster. However, your shift-points get tighter, and your highway mileage will go down. That said, if MPG is irrelevant (because of little highway use, or you just don't care), and if you like shifting more often and sooner, it's a solid mod. It's also an easier mod, and arguably more appropriate, for the 6MT rather than the AT.

Maybe not a the right mod for Z, because he road-trips his car.
