On my previous car (2003 Maxima 6MT) I had 1/4" phenolic intake spacers under the UIM and between the TB and the intake plenum, as well as 1/16" spacers under the LIM. Their benefit was two-fold: reducing air temps because of the aluminum intake, and increasing air volume in the intake manifold area. There was a very noticeable gain in the mid-range, and heat soak with that big aluminum intake completely went away.

I suspect the VQ35HR intake manifold simply has more air volume than the UIM on the 3.7, and that somehow plays well in improved midrange, but probably reduces peak HP... which would explain why NISSAN didn't use it. They needed the peak HP numbers for marketing.

^^^^ makes so much sense. So looking forward to putting this on.

Also just got word that I will be allowed (got the bosses permission) to buy stuff to make my own grounding kit. Just trying to decide if I want the wiring to be blue with the car or like a neon green or orange

I would love coilovers but can't afford them yet.... Just prepping for a car show first or maybe I will leave it stock height until I can afford it, I'm not sure

A car show? Wouldn't you need to be showing off the engine bay, then? In the context of what you're doing with the outside of the car, it will be interesting to see what you do under the hood.

On another topic, I'm looking at your paint-in-progress pictures, and wondering why your paint guy didn't remove the window trim for the job, masking it instead.

Once again I was curious to see how it looked paint matched. Haven't seen one done yet other than black

Hopefully you'll get a good paint bond on the sides of the trim where it meets the rubber seals, that can really be hard to achieve w/out removing the rubber. It's going to be a unique look, kudos for giving it a shot

I cannot wait to see what they come up with on this! I thought about jumping on it myself - ordering BC coils, swapping the springs and getting an OE style top hat but I will not waste my time and money if they are going to test it out. That's great news for us X guys indeed!

BTW Brad, your avatar is on point cracks me up every time

it's worth mentioning - YMMV, of course - that some of us with grounding kits experienced strange battery issues. there's a note in the FSM that grounding kits do not play well with some sort of at rest battery voltage regulator in the car, and this can lead to your battery potentially not fully charging / dying an early death. Mine died within 2 months of getting a kit. My dealership also mentioned the grounding kit issue when I brought it in for an unrelated electrical problem.

It may or may not be related, but I disconnected my grounding kit, got a new battery, and no issues since, 20k miles ago.

This is hearsay - do your own research. Many people have them without issue!

^^^
To this point, the OP's car is practically new (albeit hail-damaged), so I was wondering what problems he was hoping to fix with the grounding kit.

Twiggs?

The laggy sifting of the 7at and better sound of the stereo system.... Those were the pros of it that I read of. But never heard of anything bad until now..... So would y'all recommend not doing it?

I've had my grounding kit for more than 6 months now, no negative effects seen.
